    I finally got one!
Got a 7 week old BP just a few minutes ago. He's still in his hide but he's ventured out a little bit, poking his head out and looking around. He came with a decent little setup, hide, log and plant to climb on, substrate, and a 10 gallon tank with a heating pad. We bought a water dish yesterday that looks big enough so he can fit most of his body in. He's only about as big around as my thumb, maybe a little bigger. I do have to get to the pet store to get some fuzzies as we bought large mice yesterday in anticipation of a much older snake, but I can do that Monday. I'll get pictures up as soon as I can, I'm very excited!

Congratulations!! Just make sure to leave him alone as long as you can stand. I prefer a week to 2 weeks, but some people can't wait that long, so at least 5 days. I wouldn't worry about feeding him any time soon, wait at least 3 days before attempting to feed so he wont regurgitate. Other than that make sure you get a GOOD thermometer/hygrometer combo for the tank so you know exactly what the tank is at. I recommend Accurite thermometers from Walmart that are $12 and have a external probe.

Yay, welcome to the club! I assume he's a normal? Does he have a name?

Congrats! Like stated, give him some time to settle in. I always wait a week without handling and trying not to go near him for a week then try to feed. Don't handle until he has eaten a couple times for you! Ball pythons can get stressed easily! Follow this caresheet and you will have a very happy snake: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ius)-Caresheet

Congrats on your first BP! Like everyone said, your first challenge will be to leave him alone until he gets acclimated. We say this because most of us have been there before. Your second challenge will be to stop at just one!

    Welcome!

He is a normal I believe, I don't see anything that would classify him as anything else. I was stumped for a good name, so my girlfriend started calling him "Peek" because he would peek out of his hide, look at her, duck back in, then repeat the process all over again. He's been out of his hide several times, once to take a quick swim through his water dish and up his plant, another time to climb up the side of the tank on the cool side for a few minutes. He ate Thursday so that's something I don't have to worry about for a few more days. He seems to be adjusting well, from what little I know.

Pictures will be provided as soon as my in-laws get here (They love snakes), because I don't have access to a camera right now. And in response to your post, MakiMaki, my girlfriend, even though she is very afraid and intimidated by them, absolutely loves him and wants to get another someday.

We are also thinking of spending some extra money next month on getting an enclosure set up and buying a BP for her mom as an early Christmas gift. With care sheet and other tips printed out of course.

I just had a quick question that I didn't want to start a new thread for, because its relevant to this one, I suppose! I just adopted my new baby BP yesterday, and the previous owner said he ate every Thursday. Would it be okay to feed him this upcoming Thursday or should I wait a few more days?

Then feed him I shall. He also could shed soon, according to his previous owner. I am keeping in regular contact with her, which pleases me because its obvious she took good care of the little guy.

This is hilarious. I get a snake and in the last 48 hours I've received probably a dozen emails from people looking to rehome snakes. I'm happy with the guy I've got though, he's very friendly! (Pictures are in the picture forum.)
