do you drop temp for breeding or dont?
Its my first year breeding and just wanted to get an idea of how many people drop there temp or don't. Don't know which way to take since I don't have a good thermastat to do it automaticly. Thanks

The hot spot temp is dropped by 10 degrees at night (cool side remain at 76/78)

I did for the first two years, but this year I didn't, and my results were as good or better...so why stress the animals by dropping temps, when it's clearly unnecessary? I believe that the light cycle alone is enough to trigger breeding. The spikes in humidity and barometric pressure changes that come with autumn and spring storms also seem to play a role.

I have actually decided to drop mine. Only at night though.
    Day time: 92 hot / 81 cool (10 hours)
    Night time: 84 hot / 78 cool (14 hours)

If my cool side is dropping below 75-76 I will raise the temps up. I don't want an RI

Ok well since it pretty much 50/50 on it I decidedto not drop since I don't have a therostat that can do the automatic drop. Good news is yesterday morning I started pairing and no locks yet but the males were in positionto breed. Lol they are almost there. Thanks for the input every one

This is only my second year breeding but last year two out of the three females I bred laid eggs no slugs no problems and I did not drop the temps at all. So I plan to try the same thing this year.

Is the reason for dropping temps more to get the females to ovulate? Or is it more to get them all in the mood for love...;)

Re: do you drop temp for breeding or dont?
From what I understand is that the temp drop is to get them in the mood by recreating their natural temp cycle in the wild. Good news is that I didn't drop and I have paired my male pastel x female spider, cinnamon male x pastel female, and yellow belly male x normal and have seen all three pairs locked up multiple times. So it's working for me so far

honestly, i live in socal and my balls live outside in an entryway before my room.
the temps are always up in the day and kewl at nite.

latley they have dropped lower outdoors ( but their tanks drop only a bit but not in the danger zone)

so technically i didnt intentionaly cool them.
the weather did it for me and right now my male pastel and female normal
are going at it like its going outta style.

so no i didnt cool and i have successful lockups.
but its also said that (im sure its true but IDK)
that the cooling is mostly so the males sperm
    becomes well becomes good sperm.

    like in humans,

our testicles need to be kept cool which is why they are outside our bodies
instead of inside, to better keep them and the developing sperm healthy and production high.

you get it? hope i wasn't to gross.
    but its nature.

so i was told to cool the male and keep the female warm, just not to warm.
because the cold is like a natural stimulant that the time for love is in the near you know?

I never touch the hot spot temp. My Snakes live in the garage so they get the season change (temp Drops) from the weather changes. Kind of a natural cycle.

We're going without dropping temps this year. There will be some natural variation in the cool side temps due to household temps as the season changes.
