08 Female Pastel Still too small for breeding...
Hey guys, Im kind of concerned, 08 female pastel is still about 1,100 grams. I would figure by about 3 years she'd be ready to breed. Have any of you guys experienced a very slow growth rate among certain animals? If so please let me know about your experience. Could she grow more at this point if I fed her more often? Or are her days of growing over?:confused::confused:

Nothing uncommon I have several females in that same boat...
Some just take longer than others, and no her days of growing are not over.
I actually have a 2008 female pastel also in the 1100 gram range

    Now the big question
What and how often do you feed her? Is she a picky eater?

I have an 08 Pastel that is 950g. She only eats ASF's and the guy I got her from told me she was an on/off feeder. She has been feeding strong since June so I'm hoping she'll be ready by next year.

Thanks for that, its very comforting.:P She can be picky at times, but eats often with a strong feeding response. She seems to digest her food at a much more rapid rate than my other animals, subsequently, she is significantly more energetic and responsive than my other animals. I wonder if that may have something to do with it. The more energy she exerts, the less fat stored, the smaller the snake. Im no scientist but it seems like a plausible theory.
I usually will feed once a week, but based on the season Ill either increase or decrease how often she eats.

I have and 08 female mojave & spider both girls were just under 900 grams when aquired. I've had the Mojave for 4 months no w & the spider for 2 months. Both were @ 1350 gram mark empty 1-2 weeks ago. They were on the skiny side when I got them and take meals nicely. The mojave was off feed at first for 3-4 weeks and has skipped some meals. The spider doesn't refuse anything.

They all grow at their own rate some just grow exponentially faster than others.

We have a mid 08 black pastel female that just went over 2000 grams and a late 08 yellow belly that is 900 grams, it's crazy how different some can be when it comes to how much they will eat.

Growth depend on a lot of factors including the animal itself.

Here are some comparison with some of my animals.

I have several 09 females that are a little over 1000 grams, while I have and 07 females that is almost 1000 grams.

I also have a 06 females that is around 1300 and that I will be breeding for the first time this season (even though I prefer to breed big girls over 1800 grams), she is a slow grower (healthy but not a great feeder and growing slowly) and I believe she will never get much bigger than what she is now, so given she is 4 years old and finally at a good weight I will finally breed her.

Remember breeding is not a competition it might take time for some animals to get up to size and some animals might be up to size but not breed anyway.

well if she feeds fast you should maybe try to feed her a bigger size or feed her the same size again right after.

Yea I have a 08 female dinker that is only 650 grams. She is not a good eater at all. 3 of my other females from 08 are well over 1500 grams but she's is a small girl.

I would feed her every 5 days if she will take it and you can also offer multiple items! It is a good idea to offer more just before breeding season as they need the energy to make folicles!

Wow sound like whats going on with my female het pied... I have an 08 het pied born in june of 08 who is barly hitting the 1000 gram mark.. She eats every week and i always feed her to where the is a small buldge in her stomach but yet she is growing very slow... Her mom (pied) was the same way she is... Her owner breed her in 07 for the 1st time at 1100 grams she was 3 years old wen breed but she produce a 5 eggs clutch somehow.... And my pied is thick and is 3ft inches.... Now campared her to my albino male from early '10 he was born at 61 grams... Now he is at 700. So he will for sure out grow her very soon it really depends on ur animal and their matabolism

We have a 2005 0.1 Normal that is finally at 750 grams. She was 460 last March. She's eating well now. Some just don't eat that well and then don't grow that much.
