    When do you start pairing?
I feel like this has probably been discussed, but I can't find anything in a search... so I'll just go ahead and start my own thread. ;) With the 2010-2011 breeding season upon us, I was just wondering when you typically start pairing?

Last year I started in Sept-Oct (just two girls), but didn't get eggs until June - so thinking I should wait until winter this year. Does it even matter? And if anyone here pairs early, do you get early clutches? Very excited for my second season, and I'm sure you're all anxious to get started too! :)

P.S. I guess you can call the last option "January or OTHER," as I suppose some people pair during the spring/summer...

Just as soon as I get a female over 1500g! Sadly, looks like that's still a month or two off.

This is my 1st time breeding, I put my male Pin in with a normal female, about 3 days ago. My buddy texted me with a picture of them locked up!! That was only a DAY of them being together...So, I guess I'm starting a little earily. There have been a few storms coming through last weekend, I'm thinking that had something to do with it....

Another thing I was/am doing is putting a different male in with my females, if he dosen't lock with her I will move him to another female for 2-3 days, when I switch him I will put the other male in with her..From what I understand, by putting a male in with a female and taking him out, and put another male in, the current male will "Think" the other male is still in there, causing him to go into breeding mode...Which is what happened in my case.

So I guess you can start pairing when ever you want and they will go whenever they feel like it. Try what I did, one male in for a few days, then another..Might work for you over there in CA.

    Good Luck!!!!:gj:

Thanks! :) The temperature is literally the same ALL YEAR out here, since I live right on the coast... so outside temps & season aren't much of a factor, and I didn't cool last year (don't plan to this year either). Guess it doesn't matter when I pair them, but I'm just wondering if it's a waste of time to start early - since they mostly seem to ovulate in spring regardless.

We just got hit with our first cold front of the season so I tried pairing a couple of my snakes and both took. I was going to wait till mid November but my fem spider went off feed, then the weather changed, so I thought I'd try my luck. We'll see what happens.

This is what I've found being on the west coast.
Pair them early or pair them late, they still drop eggs in May/June :P

For me it all depends on the animals. I like to start dropping temps Oct 1st. But this year i didnt drop them until tonight. With the way the weather has been I decided to wait a little longer.

Plus I want a few more meals in some of the girls beforehand.

Listen to your animals, they will tell you.

Mine do seem to respond to hours of daylight, too, if they're in a room with windows. But my girls are still eating plenty, and the males are only just starting to taper down their feeding.

Yesterday my female het albino was repeatedly shrugging off the male het's attentions when I introduced them.

I will start pairing mine this year in Nov. All my females just started slamming rats ever feeding now that it finally cooled off here if Florida. I would like to get a few more solid feeds in before breeding starts so I will start after I get back from Vacation.

Exactly. A friend of mine and I discussed this and figure, why start early if you aren't going to get eggs any sooner? It's just a month or two more of unnecessary stress, and a month or two more you could be adding weight to your girls!!!

I'm staring sometime in December, mid to late.

i do the same, once they are of size i start them in a rotation with males after a few roations i give them a couple weeks off. i keep this up till i get eggs pretty much and then they are off a rotation till a couple months after they get their weight back on. ive had eggs in sept, april, and may so far and one looks like she is going to lay any day now (missed ovy so not sure exactly).

Re: When do you start pairing?
I usually begin breeding late September or anytime in October. This season however, I am only breeding one female and she still has 150g to go before I begin introducing her to the boys, so I have a little bit longer to wait.
