How do you secure your thermoemter probes in your snakes enclosure?
How do you secure your thermoemter probes in your snakes enclosure(s) without tape?

I would like to get rid of all the tape in my snakes enclosure, but I dont know what else I can use to secure the probes so they dont get moved by the snake

I currently have it so the snake can NOT get to the tape. I have extremely heavy hides ontop of the probes and tape and then I have rocks weighing the newspaper down so she cant even get under it to come in contact with the tape

and even if she did get under the newspaper she cant get to the tape because it and the probes are under very heavy hides

HOWEVER just for peace of mind id like to know hwo to secure the probes without tape, because you never know what could happen

    Any help is appreciated

The one that I have has a suction cup attached to the wire

Suction cups will never last. I used hot glue on a few of mine and now I'm using foil tape. I find the foil tape more convenient. The hot glue makes it a little awkward to put on another tank/tub.

What kind of tape have you been using?

Im using duct tape because I dont have any foil tape :(

I dont wanna use hot glue aswell because then it will be hard to put it into the adult enclosure. Would have to cut it off or something

I am not sure how your set up is but I use melamine racks and I used a dremmel to notch out where I put my probes on the shelves. I put the probes in the notches, then I tape the probes wire down with heat tape (which is partly notched out also), then I put my flex watt over the probe and lastly heat tape the flex watt down..

Hopefully your snake can not get to the duct tape?

Im not using a rack unfortunatly

I am fairly certain that she cant get to the duct tape, Like I said I have rocks weighing down the newspaper so she cant get under it and the duct tape is under VERY heavy hides

So im pretty certain that she cant get to the tape, im just concerned about it until christmas.

Because on christmas I am building her adult enclosure so then I can hot glue the probes down :) because they wont be moving to another enclosure so i can just secure them however I want permanently :D

Agree 100% - Minus the hot glue. I use foil tape as well.

Foil tape keeps the probe much closer to the "hot spot" than a suction cup will allow.

Thats exactly why I use tape instead of the suction cups.

I guess I wont worry about it because she cant get to the tape so i think itll be fine

Another option that I really like is to eliminate the possibility of probe movement by placing the probe directly on the heat source.

I use a temp gun and adjust the thermostat accordingly to make sure the enclosure is at the desired temp. If you don't have a temp gun, they are a great investment and are becoming very resonable. Just don't point it at the sun!

Yeah, I really want to buy a temp gun when I have the money. I plan on getting a job very soon so that will be an option :)

    Thanks

I just secure the probe to the heating device, and don't put it in the cage. I take temps in the cage with a temp gun and adjust the thermostat to produce the right temps.

In the few instances I've put probes for thermostats or thermometers in the cage, I don't secure them, I just stick them under the edge of the hide.

I'm not sure if you guys have MicroCenter stores up there, but they have a cheap-o one for $10. So far the two I got have been working great. I keep probes in all my snake enclosures, but I use the temp gun for the leo's.

I have these Velcro strips u can cut to however you want. I took a small piece and glue it to the probe then pit the other Velcro side on the bottom inside the tub then glue again. Now the probe and the ground have a piece of Velcro. After I have it in place I put a rock on top so the snake can't get at it.
