ReptilesExpress is NO LONGER shipping snakes.....
    I got this email tonight...

    "Valued Reptiles Express Members,

The success Reptiles Express has enjoyed these first few months has been fantastic -- THANK YOU! to all who have joined as members and are using our services!

We have been working hard with UPS to develop a business model that provides value and service to the reptile community, and overall things are going well. We have however had some issues that need to be resolved concerning the shipping of SNAKES.

While reptile enthusiasts think nothing of holding, handling, or transporting a harmless non-venomous snake, this is new territory for UPS personnel, and the idea is taking some time to be fully accepted.

Technically we DO have a "snake waiver" -- we CAN ship snakes. But in spite of that fact, there has been some resistance to accepting them at some of the UPS facilities. This has resulted in confusion, delays, etc, which is obviously not good for any of us - including the animals. In order to preserve our ability to ship snakes going forward it's important that we help UPS work through these issues as calmly and smoothly as possible.

In an effort to do this, effective immediately we are placing a temporary suspension on the shipping of snakes. This is a voluntary move on our part that we feel is in the best interest of us all, and it applies to SNAKES ONLY -- we ARE still shipping other reptiles.

Updates on this issue will be posted on www.reptilesexpress.com as things progress.

We thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and for your continued support as we work towards making Reptiles Express the best it can be for us all.

The title says "NO LONGER", but actually the e-mail says "temporary suspension".

True...Sorry I can't edit it now...maybe a mod can do it for me?

But honestly I do not think it will be anytime soon that we will be able to ship snakes through reptilesexpress.com or through shipyourreptiles.com.....

reptile express relies on snake shipping for a large part of their business. They aren't just going to sit on this and do nothing, I honestly believe they're going to do everything in their power to work with UPS on a good solution.

I'm going to go ahead and get my FedEx cert as well. But I'm also holding out hope that ReptilesExpress will resolve their issues.

    Trust me everyone.

All these services are nice, and VERY easy....but you will ALWAYS be better off having a FedEx Certification.

I have a fed ex cert and it took me about 3 weeks total to get it. My rep was cool and i've shipped 43 snakes so far no issues at all. The price is about 5% more the Reptiles Express with my discount.

This policy change isn't new. I got the same message sometime in June. So, it's been at least 4 months, so maybe it's not as temporary as they first thought.

This is the first time Reptiles Express is doing this. Are you sure you aren't thinking of Ship Your Reptiles?

When I wrote Reptiles Express, they told me they expected the suspension to last 2-4 weeks.

I'm pretty sure they'd send out a mass email if there was any change, considering snake shipping makes up a pretty large portion of reptiles shipped on a day-to-day basis. That said, I haven't got an email from them, so I'm guessing they still have some things to work out with UPS... though it has been more than the 2-4 weeks they expected this to take.

I just notices this post so I figured I would comment on the current standing with shipping snakes with UPS and Reptiles Express. UPS asked us to place a temporary hold on snake shipping until they could come up with a snake policy and handling procedures. UPS has a big fear of snakes and they thought everyone was shipping 20 foot man eaters. They sent a UPS representative to our booth at the Daytona show. We took then around, introduced them to some of our current members and educated them on what snake breeders/dealers are really shipping. I believe the show was a huge step forward making UPS realize that this is a big industry and they have expressed they want to workout a policy that will allow snakes without all of this waiver BS. The one thing we have learned dealing with UPS is they will get something done but they like to move at a very slow pace. They told us it would be 2-4 weeks. It has been almost 2 months. We are pushing for a solution and to resume shipping snakes before the end of the year. Thanks for everyones support. We will send a email out to all of our members after we get some positive news from the UPS ivory tower.

What happens if someone does ship a snake using Retile Express now?

    What happens to the shipper?
To the person getting the snake?

I know it's only been a couple days since Brendan posted but your website used to have a notice on there saying that shipping snakes was temporarily put on hold. I do not see that warning anymore, so are we allowed to start shipping snakes again?
