I use AP racks exclusively and I love them. I currently have 4 AP racks and will be ordering another one shortly. They are well worth the money and your snakes will do great in them. I have never used a home made rack but I know alot of people do and they work great. For me it was more for the uniform look of the rack and you know what your getting. If you need the rack in the next few days I would maybe say look into Reptile Basics racks as they are very good too. AP generally takes about 6-8 weeks to have the rack available and Reptile Basics is more like 7-10 days. Either way you cant go wrong. Hope this helps you out. Wich ever way you decide you will be happy and your snakes will do very well in a rack.
As for a thermostat I would recommend a spyder-tronics Herp stat. I use these for all my cages and racks and love them. All depends on what you are looking to spend on it all.

I have two AP racks on a Herpstat ND. I've been very pleased with my AP racks and would recommend them. I also built my own rack from a 5 shelf resin shelving unit I got from the Home Depot. I ordered the 3" Flexwatt in 3' lengths to run the length of the shelves from Reptile Basics (if you order the connectors they will put it all together). I covered the back part of the shelf with Aluminum tape, put the Flexwatt over it and then taped it down with more aluminum tape. I can fit two 32 qt sterilite containers with locking lids on each shelf. My temps and humidity have been fine with that rack as well.

Forgot to add that AP will wire your Flexwatt as well and it is included with the rack.

I only use reptile basics racks. You can't beat them in my opinion.

    1. Very fast turnaround on you order.
    2. Investment Quality racks at affordable prices
    3. Rich's customer support is 2nd to none.

I currently have 7 racks and use Herptstat ND's and Helix's with them

Ive got a few racks, and cages.
i wouldn't go any other way, besides AP.
For my racks, i use a Ranco Thermostat, for my 4 foot cages i have a helix.
The downfall is, you do have to assemble them (and seal them if your getting cages) but honestly its worth it. These racks and cages will outlive most your animals.

thanks for all the great responses, Im curious if you think I could buy a racking system and thermostat at a reptile show like the one in oakland, or oregon? just a thought.

Also BONES93 are you serious about the 6-8 week delay. Im sending them an email for a sub adult juvie rack, with questions regarding shipping time. THanks

From my experiance that is the turn around time for the racks. RBI is faster and have nice racks as well. I have never used RBI but a buddy who has one of theirs and AP racks said that the RBI is a bit more flimsy than AP. Not sure if that would be a deterrant though not to order them.

considering they are more expensive. but anyways found a guy at pvccages.com i think is his site. he has some good deals but whats up with back heat and belly heat Its my understanding the belly heat is more desired for BP's this true it will cost extra to have it installed over back heat but I think thats the direction I will be headed.

Ap racks are awesome. Most of what people already said are true.

Although yes if you expect it fast dont go with AP. I got a rack from them this summer (ordered sometime in june) and it was a 5 week manufacturing time. So I didnt get it till august.

Thats just something to note because I dont remember reading it or seeing it untill after I made the purchase.

That set aside the rack arrived in great condition and is working awesome for my snakes :gj:

I have one product from AP, their 4x2x2 cage.

It was the best cage out there for the price. Next time I'm probably going a different direction in manufacturer, but simply because I think I want to try out radiant heat panels rather than flexwatt.

ok so Im planning on buying an animal plastic. sick cages got my email response and the 5 week wait isnt a big deal but I decided a temporary or permanent diy project should be fun. My plan is heavily influenced from this youtube video.

It looks like he bought an adjustable rack and installed heat tape lol that would save tons of money considering its would be under a hundred dollars for the tubs rack tape and then 150 for thermostat. any examples of DIY RACKS ON THIS SITE. I appreciate your help with reviews on reptile basic racks and what not.

Yeah I ordered Animal Plastics back on August 18th...still waitin for them. The last time I called the lady told me they would be done and shipped by the end of last week. I'm going to call again tomorrow. *sigh*

However, I've only heard great stuff, so I guess patience is a virtue and they'll be worth the wait.

The wait is worth it. I'm waiting on my 3rd rack from them now. Ali ( the person you probably spoke with ) has always been good at getting back to me if I have/had questions or wanted an update. Definitely a bit less flexible then the RBI racks which I have a few of as well. Both work well though.

I use animal plastics economy racks... I love em... The only thing I dislike about em is I dont have a target near me... so I have to get tubs from a bigger city.... I have 2 racks will be ordering a hatchling rack and another adult rack very soon... does take them a while for manufacturing, but worth it in my oppenion

I used the same ideas from this video to make a rack. It actually turned out nice and holds two locking 32 qt Sterilite tubs per shelf. I got the shelving at Home Depot for under $60 and also picked up some aluminum tape there. I bought the locking Sterilite tubs at Target for under $10 a piece. I got 3" Flexwatt from Reptilebasics and taped it to the backside of the rack with the aluminum tape. Overall it wasn't a hard project at all.
