Problem!!
This is a long story but it's getting late so I will try to make it quick, I am really stressed out. A while back I came across an ad for a male pin het albino and two female albino's for a good price, so I emailed the guy and made a deposit. Within a week of the deposit they were paid for. The guy took forever to ship them, apparently he wasn't certified to ship as he implied, but his friend was and he was going to use his account. However, he couldn't get in contact with said friend for some reason. We asked for our money back because at this point we were feeling uneasy about the guy and the deal we had made. He told me straight up that he had spent our money and could not send it back, however he would give us a 30 day guarantee on the snakes.. which what good does that do if he can't give us money back?? Two weeks later when threatened with a paypal dispute he decided he could ship. They arrived today. All three had horrible stuck sheds, the pin has frayed belly scales, the smaller albino female has an obvious respiratory infection at least, complete with oozing bubbles and popping/wheezing sounds.. and the larger albino had diarrhea.. which I have never seen before and have no idea what that means. We pulled her out and her vent opened and very loose awful smelling something came falling out. I have had lots of snakes for quite a while and yes I have been pooped on and such but have never seen anything like this come out of my snakes. I have pictures and will post them when I get them on my computer. I don't know what to do. Obviously I should have tried harder to get my money back instead of taking the snakes but I trusted that he was trying and that we were both getting a good deal. I emailed him, we will see what he has to say. Any suggestions?

Here is a diarrhea or whatever it is picture.
And the purchase I made before this one was a nice male bee, who also showed up thin and with an awful respiratory infection. I will not be purchasing from anyone I don't know anymore unless they are a large well known good breeder, or someone with great references from people I know. Probably should have been a good rule to have to begin with! I am too trusting! It's also sad because I am a small not well known breeder with quality animals that I care for correctly! I'm really bummed.

First things first, QT & take to vet ASAP, sorry you had such a bad experience :(, but I'm sure in your care they will be fit in no time :)

Re: Problem!!
Ok first off sorry you got sick snakes. Now what has this clown that sold them to you say when told about these issues? If you did not tell him you need to and demand he do a refund. If he acts ignorant about it then reveal his name here so we all can avoid him. Then take this info to www.faunaclassifieds.com. and give the same info there.Who knows someone just might live close to him and might help you convince him to give you your money back :P.
-
Yeah, I'd take this to the BOI on faunaclassifieds.
If anything, look up his name/email/whatever on that site to see if anyone else has had problems with that seller.
Really sucks that they showed up in such bad shape. Sellers like that are sure going to make it hard for us new guys in the hobby to sell our herps.
-
I am really sorry you ended up with these sick snakes. As was said before quartine these 3 to make sure you don't spread anything to your other snakes.
I would also definitly post up this guys name and email all over BP.net's feedback forum and the BOI on faunaclassifieds to make sure this guy can't do this to anyone else.
This happened to me once with 1 snake. Now I just buy from 2 local breeders who I trust.

Thanks everyone, I assure you they are in quarantine and vet appointments are being made. However, this is the email I got this morning.
----------
Candace i can assure you none of these snakes has respitory. they are all healthy. the larger on may have runny stool because of very little food in its system with alot of water. she drinks plenty of water but has been off food for weeks. the heat in shipping can cause this. i already noted to her they all 3 were in shed and i was running short on time getting them shipped so i couldnt get it all off before shipping. you have 30 days and no need to over react. i have proper caging and living for all my stuff. my heating is always on target so like i said there is no chance of respitory. get back with me in a week and let me know how they are. i am no rookie at what i am doing here. i am very striaght up and honest and i will hope on your end that i get happy customers. they are great snakes. like i told her give them a few days and then offer them food. now on the other hand here with there being 30 days in my guarentee take my word for now that they are fine. let me know what you think in a week. i will tell what they need during these 30 days. hey, i dont mind giving you the money back if there is any real issue here. i can assure things will look better, much better. its on you to run to the vet at this point. but i know its not in need right now. it will be a big waste of time and money. it wont be my money being spent on a vet visit right now. lets give them a week or two and then tell me something. i can make you a video of my collection so you can see what kind of stuff i have and they are all healthy. they all feed on live rats. no need to panic at this point. does that sound fair?

His name is Jason Lucas, his email is izzysweetz@yahoo.com and his fauna username is JLucas. I'm afraid if I make a negative post on the BOI he will definitely not try to help me..

Re: Problem!!
He's not going to try to help you. He's a lying sack of crap.
Write off the loss, learn the lesson and move on.
For sure though, go to the BOI and post up a bad guy thread.
He's a crook and you're a victim.
You gonna lay down and take it or stand up for yourself?
Of course this response is predicated on the presumption that things are as you say.
Post up some pictures and if it's true, and I'm not saying it isn't, you'll have lots of people trying to help you on fauna.

Re: Problem!!

The "diarhea" may have been the snake musking you. But if she continues to have runny stool, you'd definitely want a vet visit.
You could either contact him and say you want to return the snakes for a full refund, or take the loss, keep them in QT, possibly take them to the vet if they don't improve, and hope for the best.
So sorry you had issues with your purchase. I hope it works out for you.

He's no rookie, yet he was unable to refund your money because he's already spent it.
A smart experienced seller doesn't spend money until the animals are delivered and the customer is happy. I like to wait a week or two on top of that, to ensure the funds are available in the unlikely event (knock wood - never, to date) that I need to refund my customer for any reason.
It's good that you're taking them to the vet.

Re: Problem!!
hello,
I am the lady Joe was referring to whom had an inquiry thread up on this guy on Fauna. He had a het red axanthic female I was very interested in, but passed on her ( thankfully!) due to rodent bites. He was honest about them when I asked about them. His responses and all were timely and I had no other issues with him, just did not wish to purchase a scarred snake. this was in May of this year.
i know someone pmed me asking how my transaction went on fauna, but i cleared out my inbox. If op is the person who did so, I am so sorry I didnt have steered you clear- i honestly had no way of knowing this would have happened.
I would not settle for sick animals. If I sold you animals, and my animals are healthy, and you proved they came in with respiratory infections, or something wasn't right with them, I would want you to take them to the vet to know for sure! Perhaps he was trying to dump them quickly? he said he was open for offers on the het red- of course after I ask about the bite.
In my opinion, I would post something on the BOI. If you dont feel like doing a bad guy thread in fear o fhim not doing anything, do an info thread, just stating the facts of what happened, and that there might be some resolution in the future according to what he is claiming... but its there in public for everyone to see ?? I, personally, would like to know this if I was interested in purchasing anything from him.
I wish you the best of luck, wish the snakes themselves the best of luck with this. If there is anything that I can do that will deem helpful, just let me know.

lol joepythons, I just found that link on that thread on Fauna, and that's how I ended up here :P :P
I hope his business becomes nonexistent if the story is true (sounds like it is!). That's ridiculous. Sorry, OP, about the snakes. :(

Thanks for the info everyone! Here is an email update. I tried on my alpha pants and sent him this:
I can assure you that the snake with bubbles coming out of her mouth and popping sounds is sick. It does not sound fair at all for you to decline to send money to cover vet bills when you said we had a 30 day guarantee. And where is the card you said you would write for the het albino male stating genetics and your "guarantee"? Right now your word is meaning nothing to me and the Fauna Classified's BOI will hear about it and so will everyone on BP.net if you do not figure out a way to make this right. You will find yourself having a very difficult time selling your snakes if that happens.
And this is his reply:
i can assure you i already have a good rep. but anyhow, i will contact a local vet there myself and personally make the appointment and pay the bill over the phone. when is a good time to bring her in for you all? let me know when is best asap so i can call them up. its weird like you said for it to happen over night but i guess it did because here she was perfectly fine. what do you all have them in for caging? i just got some photo paper and i will get you a card made up. give me a good day and time for a vet appointment.

Sounds like that got him moving ;)

Re: Problem!!
So this guy is no "rookie" but he thinks a snake can get URI during overnight shipping .Then he states over and over about anyone can compare his collection and husbandry to thiers anytime .You know who he sounds like? Ole Allen Belcher :P.I wonder if thats who he learned from? Well at least he has changed his attitude some. When you take the snake to the vet he pays for please show us the results and the fact he paid the bill. Then we will see if he is a good guy who dropped the ball but fixed it.Or a scumbag to avoid.
-
Re: Problem!!
the thread on fauna got a responce from him as well after mine.... perhaps he just needed soem pressure
-
Re: Problem!!
So now the snake has been diagnosed with URI and dehydrated. So his snakes are not perfect like he tried to pretend they were :colbert:.In my opinion he should refund you all your money and take his snakes back on his dime.
-
The sick albino girl had a vet appointment today. Jason picked the vet and paid. She has an RI and was dehydrated. The vet also said she saw some brown spot that "looked" like mites, but she didn't say for sure so I won't hold that against him. One more thing.. when she flipped her on her back, she took a while to roll back over. Obviously this could be because she is sick, but according to the vet there is a virus going around that makes snakes lethargic, and you can't tell if it is there until they die. Has anyone heard anything about this? I'm not suggesting the snakes he sent us have it, I'm just curious since she mentioned it.
-
Re: Problem!!
I would send those snakes back ASAP
-
Re: Problem!!
Hi,
I'd also order a can of Provent-A-Mite and treat your entire collection as a precaution.
I hate to say it but possible infection + possible traveling parasites would make me extremely reluctant to keep the animals in question. You bought three snakes and have identified problems with each of them. Have you tried flipping the other two over to see how fast they right themselves?
Did the vet take any blood samples to check for infection?
I would also inspect all of them to see if you can see any mites - check the heatpits eyes, vent etc as well as looking in the waterbowls.

Re: Problem!!
I would ship those snakes back as well....
however, RE is currently not shipping snakes.... so unless you are fedex certified, I don't know what your options are. Just adhere to the absolute strictest qtine possible!
I don't know how much of a big deal this is, and I dont want to be shouting stuff out on the BOI, but in his responce to me, he said the het red had the scar upon him picking it up at hamburg, yet I have emails of him answering my question 'did this happen in your care' with' yes. i did not see the mark upon pickup'
Now, he may have seriously not really seen it upon picking it up, but i dont know why he would tell me otherwise. He never sounded real sure as to what the scar was from, and I didnt really mak ea big deal b/c I didnt want a scarred animal- even tho it wouldnt have effected breeding or made the snake any less of a pet.
As far as this virus thing with the snake rolling over slower than usual... Was a culture done on this snake? Is the RI bacterial or viral? did th evet name the virus that causes this?
Really keep yourself clean- hand washing, hand sanitizer, dont share feeding tongs, tend to these snakes last. I would even try to do a mini qtine with the one that is sick and the others ( if you can't qtine her away from the others in qtine)- keep them as far away as possible, and always tend to the sick girl last.
Well, I am glad he at least took up the vet bill, but anyone who has no prob spending the money before the customer recieves the snakes and has them for the guaranteed heath timeline is not someone i wish to do business with.
I am very sorry you have to go through this. I wish you the very best!

I am not fedex certified yet :( I just got on Reptile Express after UPS bailed! They are all qtine'd. The two albino females are actually with a friend of mine, she payed for them and I paid for the male pin because I already have a few females for him. This friend is the one who bought them with me and she has suffered through all this crap too, and she is just getting into balls so it's really kind of disheartening for her.
