They Hatched!!!!

Some of you know that my egg were taking a bit long to hatch. Today is day 62. I went to check on them and I saw a little head poking out of the egg. It was a beautiful little bumble bee. I am so freaking thrilled. I only had 3 eggs so to get one bee so far is great. I'll post pics as soon as they come out.

Question: I drilled a few holes (very small) in the lid so that they can have more air. Was this ok to do? If not I can switch lids with ones not in use.

The air hole is fine at this point. They will not be in there long enough for your hatching medium to dry out.

Very cool.. I would be soooo stoked as well. Hope it is the sex you want and then all will be good huh.. Sweet :gj:

holes in the lid is fine. and congrats on the hatchlings. once one pips, the rest will very soon. don't try to feed them until a few days after their first shed. and yes we need some pics. don :banana:

I just got home after being out most of the evening. Looks like the 2nd one pipped. I saw his head. Its a .........Normal. Oh well. Still my little baby. One more to go. I'll take some pics when they aren't so shy. Thanks all. Have a good night.

Here are both of them poking out. The Bee is very shy. The normal is very brave. It hardly retreats to its egg when I open the incubator.

When they come out fully I'll get more. There is still one egg that hasn't pipped. Do you guys think I should cut tonight if it doesn't come out?

Today is day 60 for me and im getting a little worried
Ive got 8 eggs ready, I just hope they all make it!:please:

What were your temps?

The incubator was set to 89.9 but inside the egg box it was 87-88.

i cut the rest as soon as the first one pips. unless....the eggs are clumped in a mass then i let them pip on their own. as temps are diff. through out the mass.

I cut the last egg. It looks like another bee. So 3 eggs. 2 bees. 1 normal. Not bad.

Hey all. The last one is out. It looks like there is some amount of umbilical and yolk left attached to its body. The others were completely separated. Is this normal? I put him/her in a small container with a wet paper towel.

It happens from time to time - happened to me earlier this year and scared the bejeebus out of me.

Your damper paper towel in the container should be fine but make sure theres nothing in the enclosure it could get snagged on. It should dry up and drop off in a couple of days but a picture might help to make sure no intervention is needed.

Dr Del..yes that is it. Now that it broke off, the body looks similar. There's a little thing poking out.

One of mine came out with some unabsorbed yolk, but it didn't fall off immediately like yours. I placed him in a separate tub with damp paper towels, and the yolk eventually fell off after about 4-5 days. That baby is smaller than his siblings, and the only one who hasn't eaten yet (3 weeks post-shed)... but otherwise he's doing just fine. How's yours?
