Do you ever see your snake drink?
Hey guys.
Well as some of you know I got my boa a few days ago. But I dont have a question that is specific to boas so I decided this is the best place for this thread
Anyway
Have you ever seen your snake drink? so far I havent seen my snake even look at the water.
I think that some snakes just drink at night when we dont see it because we are asleep...
Any comments on your snakes drinking habits are appreciated :)

I have never seen my normal ball drink. I catch my boa drinking on a rare occasion. You'll know she's drinking after she defecates ;)

Lol, cant wait for her first poop :)
I really want to see urates though because isnt that like hard pee? :D
Its itneresting that you havent seen your normal ball drink, how long have you had him/her?
-
I've had him about 7-8 months now. Little guy is always hiding.
Yeah, you'll see the urates, mine already throws some out that look like large marshmallows :weirdface
There will also sometimes be fluid too. I've had to replace the bedding in a quarter of the cage because of excess fluid. There was even a big urate. I was told that it just happens like that sometimes.

Anybody else see thier snake drink?

They drink.. Don't worry. It's pretty uncommon to catch them in the act. I find they like to take a nice long drink after a big meal...

I know they drink, I just hate how they are so secretive about it. they are so damn cute and seeing them drink would be a cuteness overload IMO :D

Re: Do you ever see your snake drink?
I have many ball pythons, and I check on them often. I see them drink often, through the tubs. It's fun to watch if they continue while in your presence (most will stop when you walk by). I'd say I spot one drinking once a month.
If I only had one or two, I doubt I'd ever see them drink.:)
-
I've always seen my snakes drink often. But mine were (and are) in display cages. The new ones will be once they are big enough for the display cages, as well.
The ball pythons I've had for years would even drink from the nozzle of the mister. I would let the water drip out and they drank.
My new Bumble Bee drank right after she arrived from shipping. She took a looooooong drink, too !!!

Thats another thing, in display cages its probably easier to spot them drinking. Harder with a tub thats on the ground :)
That bumblebee must have been really thirsty during the shipping, to drink as soon as she came into your care right infront of you! lol

The most I ever see that little guy is on feeding day or when he's hungry. I've seen him yawn. I'll go in at night and check on the geckos and he'll poke his head out, usually when he's hungry. I guess since I bumped him up to rats, I have not seen him cruise around the tank anymore. I know he moves though, because he swaps hides from morning to evening.
-
I rarely see my snake drink, but then again I don't spend all day every day watching her in her cage. Usually if I'm giving my attention her way, she's out of her cage.
However, I do regularly see at least SOME of my various reptiles drinking at some point during the day/night.

Ah so you have a secretive little guy :)
Hes sneaky, goes from hide to hide at night lol! hes like my boa right now, she seems to be in the hot side hide all day or the cool side hide all day but I never see her move.
Some snakes are just sneaky like that though

Yep, our guy seems to drink the most right after we've had him out for a bit - he's a lazy guy so he'll let us hold him while he stretches his body into the tank and drinks. :)
-
You guys are making me think I don't handle that one enough :(
I'll try and give him some extra time tonight. I guess after he bit me I've stopped getting him out unless I feed him. Though I also upgraded him to a larger enclosure, so I don't feel he's as cramped.
I'll post pictures of him after he bites me tonight because you guys made me get him out :8:

Re: Do you ever see your snake drink?
I usually put my ball python next to the water dish when I change the water and sometimes he'll drink and sometimes he won't. :) Considering what other people said I've seen him drink a lot compared to other people, probably just because I show him his water dish occasionally.

Re: Do you ever see your snake drink?
I've had my ball for almost three months and I've only ever seen him drink twice. But he pees. A LOT. So I'm not worried that he's dehydrated :P

Re: Do you ever see your snake drink?
ive seen my drink a few times, mainly when the lights go out maybe once or twice to wash down a nice meal.:8:

Re: Do you ever see your snake drink?
I see my bp drink quite often. She almost always drinks after I feed her. In fact, I always make sure to rinse and fill her bowl right before I feed so it's fresh for her. But I catch her drinking more often than that. She's kinda weird for a bp in that she's not very shy. She uses her hide, but when I approach, she almost always comes out to say hi and she won't quit drinking just 'cause I'm there either. So I get to observe more of her behavior than I might otherwise if she were more shy.

Re: Do you ever see your snake drink?
I've seen my ball drink quite often- sometimes I am even handling him and offer him some water in a cup. He can spend as long as 20 seconds drinking, or as long as I can hold him still ;) Your snake may be drinking, but sometimes if they spend a lot of time sleeping in their hide they "forget" to drink even if it's always fresh and available. Check for dehydration...is usually easy to see because the skin will appear a little loose/wrinkled when the snake is curled up. Dented eyes can be a sign too. When Enzo's a little dry I just pick him up and offer him water and he usually takes it. If not I soak him in warm water for ~20 min a day until he gets better.
