    Hairless Dumbos?!
Noticed I had 4 that looked way different in my most recent litter of 11. Mom is a dumbo with unknown genetics. Dad is a dumbo poss. het hairless. All 4 of the suspected hairless have short curly wiskers and a tiny bit of hair.

    Middle one is normal-

    Outside ones are normal-

    3 suspected hairless in front-

Let me know what you think :D

Yep, hairless. I've (personally) never seen a black hairless (all ours are pink) but I imagine they're possible.

What coat types are the parents?

They look more like double rex patchworks to me?

    Cute babies :)

Parents are normal coat types seen here:
Babies and parents from past litter

I thought double rex too but it is impossible... I've read that true hairless will grow baby fuzz but eventually lose it. I guess we'll have to see!

Well then unless they are just fuzzing up like normals I'd say they are recessive hairless and you proved out your unknown genetics.
You'll know after they molt(3-4 weeks old) if they are true hairless.
Very kewl, rat genetics are pretty crazy, lots of recessive stuff going on.

I will get the picture up later, but this guy came from a dumbo x dumbo het breeding. I will have to assume that this is recessive hairless as no rex animals were present during breeding at any time.

I can't wait to see pics of your male tom!

Here's what my albino hairless looks like on day 13:

3 hairless sandwiched between 2 normals:

And for fun pic of a new litter that I got to see being born, 13 from a first time mom! Me and my mom call them "little pizza rolls" once they have milk bands lol

Awww so CUTE! My hairless just had babies today too. Im still giving her time before I go count them. Her first litter, but I've had hairless quite a while now. So far we haven't had good luck with them. They don't seem to be very good moms. My last hairless mom ate most of her babies. Very sad. Good luck with yours though. I hope you have better luck with them then we have had.

Yeah, I've read that it isn't uncommon for hairless females to have issues with abandoning babies, eating them, or lactating issues (not enough or not at all). It seems a lot of hairless breeders recommend breeding a hairless male to het. females or do het. to het.( like how I ended up with hairless).
I hope you have better luck with your hairless! :(

Btw, the 13 pinks look like all normals and are from a wild type (agouti) mom.

It's the same breeding dwarf rats.
I use my male to make hets with full size females then breed the male dwarf to the female hets to make half dwarf and half hets.
Female dwarfs don't normally lactate well either.
