Am I crazy?
About a week ago I paired my male pastel het ghost with one of my big normal girls. By morning they were locked GOOD and it lasted the entire day. Since then, my female has not touched the warm side of her enclosure and is refusing my male. I placed them together last night and he was trying to lock, but she kept pulling her tail away. I also thought I noticed some 'lumping' the other day.
My questions:
Is she just building follicles? Or could she actually be gravid?
This is my first season, so this is all new to me. I have done alot of reading, but I still have plenty of questions!
Thanks in advance!

He is still with her now! :) I just found it odd how receptive she was the first time they were together, then after they locked she wants nothing to do with him and she is staying on the cool side? I'll keep pairing though!

Re: Am I crazy?
Now she's in shed! Could this be the pre-ovulation shed?

Re: Am I crazy?
No and no.
Keep doing what you're doing for another 6 months and check back in then.
This is not a 2 week process, it's a 6-8 month process.

Just keep putting them together. When the time comes near for the pre ovulation shed and pre lay shed and all that you will get the idea. It wont happen over night. Just keep pairing them. Sounds like they are off to the right start tho.
Good luck this season

She probaly was not interested because she was in shed! Keep pairing!

Re: Am I crazy?
Just a heads up; there is not such thing as a pre-ovulation shed, but there is a post -ovulation shed.
One shed, always 25-30 days AFTER ovulation (hence the 'post') not BEFORE ovulation.

Is the post ovulation shed the same as the pre-lay shed?

This isn't true actually. Of course there are exceptions, but from what I understand, typically a snake will shed, ~2 weeks later they'll ovulate, ~2 weeks after that they'll shed again, and then ~27-30 days after that they lay. That's why many people who aren't paying close attention to a snake will start to suspect they have a gravid snake on their hands when they shed twice in roughly a months time. Anywho, this is how my one snake did it, and from what I understand a pretty typical pattern.
Cheers,
-Matt
