Local Ball Python tragedy made the news.
    http://kdka.com/local/North.Belle.Vernon.2.1898913.html

I feel bad for the guy. No reason to use a taser on him, he was trying to save his snakes. Lost all but one.

That's terrible :( Lots of pet owners don't think of what would happen in a fire. As cool as having a fire proof herp room would be, it's not exactly in the budget for most people

Damon and Monica Baker lost six of their 11 pet ball pythons. They breed them.
They were able to save five snakes, not just one. The picture with the article is just one of the snakes they saved with a poorly worded subtitle.

Very sorry to hear a guy was tased on his own property while trying to keep it from spreading until firefighters could arrive. I wish he could've saved more of his snakes... it's always sad to hear of pets killed in house fires. :(

Does an Officer even have the right to tase you on your property trying to save your possessions? I think the officer was out of line and if he really wanted to help he would have helped the guy spray water instead of having a power trip and tasing the guy.
I'm sorry but no body is going to tell me what to do if I have pet or family member in a fire.

I agree, I think the officer was way out of line as well. I am glad he was able to save some of his snakes though, it's better than none.

I think that bonehead would be looking for a new job if i was the guy he tasered .I would also make him pay me to replace the lost pets because it was probably his fault they were not able to be saved.I say this because he tasered the guy and delayed thier rescue efforts. To sad the ones lost there lives :(

Just found this write up about the story. The person who wrote this is a real winner. I wonder if he would say the same if the guy who lost his snakes were standing there in front of him?

The person who wrote that article is definitely a piece of work.

Thanks, I doubt it will change the way that person thinks, but it felt good giving him a little bit of what he dished out back. If he feels the need to take me up about it, he can always look me up.

I didn't want to start a blogwar so I didn't use a contact that's easily acceptable. Not that I wouldn't mind if he contacted me, but being one of the "crazies" he's talking about, I didn't want to give him more ammo with my blog.

    If I could I'd leave a comment, but I can't so I'll say how I feel here:

I'd risk my life to save my 12 creepy snakes before I'd urinate on that looser to save him.

I'd be suing for my losses; preferably the the individual owner. BPs are expensive, considered property, and our PETS. Plus, as stated, the officer was quite out of line. I don't expect to get tased unless I'm coming after someone with a knife. ... Actually, then I expect to get shot, but you get the point.

Well, I think I hit a nerve with the blogger and his ilk last night. Used a little foul language but hey, it was well deserved. I hope that Damon Baker (the guy who lost his snakes) and his family pull through this. I am hoping to breed my het pieds and a few other of my snakes this season. If I'm successful, I'm going to try to contact him and give him a few of the little ones free of charge. Don't know if he visits this site though.

its pretty crappy the guy lost his snakes but id try to get some compensation from the guy who actually started the fire.

the officer was not out of line in anyway. if any of u have had experience with law enforcement you would know why. i would have done the same thing if i were the cop, and i would have done the same thing if i was the homeowner

I doubt that he'll be able to prove any negligence on the neighbors part. Not that this is the same type situation, but I had a tree on my neighbors property fall on my house causing me some damage and also water damage in the basement a few years back. I had to pony up the deductable to my insurance co as it was an act of God. Neighbor didn't offer any assistance and it would have been fruitless trying to force him to. As long as Mr. Baker's neighbor is not negligable (leaving a candle burning, dryer running, stove on while not home), there will be little he can do to get compensation from them. And it was stated that the neighbors were not at home when the fire started. I also doubt his insurance will cover his snakes as policies usually have alot of small print as to what is and what is not covered.

I know about 6+ cops and none would do this. If it was a dog in there or his child the guy would have never been tased. The cop had a power trip from not being listened to because he is "the law" and that is the end of it.

Oh, I THINK about it! I think about it a lot, actually. I just don't know what exactly I could do about it. Pretty much the only thing that comes to mind is installing a sprinkler system? Which, yeah, out of my budget.

If the cop thought the man was in danger by being by the burning house, he was right to tase the guy to be able to move him from danger. The guy was obviously frantic to try to save the house, and might not have noticed he was in danger.

I agree with the earlier poster in fact. I would have done the same if I were the cop, and would have done the same if I were the home owner. I would have tried to save the house, and if ordered, they would have had to drag me off too.

I don't bother with bloggers. They have every right to post their opinions. I post what I like on MY blog, he can post whatever stupid junk on his blog. It's like argueing on YouTube with commenters and trolls. It's just annoying to me, won't change ANYthing at all, much less the minds of the people posting, and is a huge waste of time.

Wow that is just so sad.....I don't know what I would do if I were in that position. Probably would be caught in the fire trying to save all the babies. Thank God our house was built with a sprinkler system in every room.
