Was told this by a snake breeder, what do you think
So i met a snake breeder today while i was at work " he was wearing his business shirt" so i told him about me purchasing 3 and starting a breeding project etc... well after awhile of talking he told me.. that he has a shop that he keeps them in and he keeps it at 92 degrees day 82 at night, so he doesnt have to put a heat source on each snake setup.. . and i know everyone on here says to have a hot side and a cool side.. so i was wondering whats the downfall to having 1 steady temp for the whole room.. he told me there was none, it gave a more natural surrounding to the wild.,...... btw so i dont get scolded i do use heat tape with a controled temp.....

Sounds sketchy to me... he really shld have heat tape or UTH...
Almost every ball python owner knows this and its in every caresheet there is.
Don't take his advice lol :colbert:

in the wild they can choose what temp to be in, lay out in the sun if they wanted (which would be way to hot for a ball most days), but they could be in the shade or under ground. in captivity they can't choose if your room is just one temp. what he does may work, but its far from ideal and the exact opposite as in the wild.
and any heat source you need to regulate it, too many variables change cage temps for you not to.

I know of some breeders that use the ambient heating method. The theory is they are following the natural tempreture cycles of night and day. As long as they are in their required range most should do fine. I bought a pastel from a guy many years ago that used that method successfully.
What is reccomended alot on this forum is for beginners, its not the only way but its much safer and easier to achieve for the average beginner. Most folks cant provide a perfectly climate controled room so you wont find that reccomended much.

Like Raul says, it's a viable method, just not recommended for Beginners.

I agree with you on this. Our rooms are temped up, but to the lower end of the day temps. But we are still using heat tape for a hot spot. I can tell everyone it does not make it fun to work in the rooms when they are that warm.

There are a lot of breeders who have rooms that are heated, rather than belly heat. Nothing wrong with his method for him.
-
I use heat tape, but I know plenty of people that just heat the room. Works fine.

I can tell you VPI uses this method.. it's totally fine as well I wish I could afford to heat a whole building like that..
But it's fine..

I think they make up for 3-4 months of heating bills by having 8-9 months of not paying for air conditioning. :P South Texas summers will warm that building juuuust fine!

I heat my snake room to cornsnake temps and then use heat tape for the bps. :D
-
It can be done and works perfectly fine, however the power bill might be a bit scary ;) compare to keeping a snake room in the mid 70's.
But than again if your snake room allows you to do it because of where it is you might actually save money.
There's more than one way to do thing you just need to find the one that works for you.

i know a guy here who keeps his whole store and his back rooms with his personal stuff at one temp for day and a drop for night. i have never seen any of his animals get sick because of this. this is something i plan on doing when i get back home to MA.

While living in the Florida this was my preferred method of keeping my animals. Once I moved to Ohio I heated the building and also used belly heat. My electric bills were 10 fold higher using belly heat then just room heat (room heat was via gas furnace and belly tape was electric). While its less comfortable to work in 90 degrees, the reality is that depending on the total number of animals and square footage of the building it can be much less expense than paying by the foot for heat tape (also much safer, just ask your insurance company what method they would prefer:)
