    Ideas to fill a 6 x 2 x 2
    Hey guys,

    So after some measurments, I have decided I am building a 6 x 2 x 2 instead of a 5 x 2 x 2

So now that im rollin with a 6 x 2 x 2, my options on animals is a little more open, more space :)

what do you guys think I should throw in this enclosure? ANY animal at all that will live happily in it

    Any suggestions are appreciated!!!

That would work great for a large female boa or a male burm.

How big do male burms get? (length and weight?)

I can handle a 10 foot snake, and as I understand it the rule is, over 10 foot and you need helpers right?

    Oops I quoted

anyway, I meant to edit and when editing I was going to say:

One person for a 10 foot snake right, but if its 11 - 14 foot can you still handle it alone?

Generally male burms will stay between 8'-12' and most I've seen are at the lower end of that scale but they're also thinner bodied then the females, as long as you don't overfeed them, so are easier to handle (in my opinion). But of course there are exceptions, I've got a male albino that's just over 7' and I have a friend who has a male around 15 feet, so you never know for sure how big it's going to be, but 8'-12' is pretty average. It is generally recommended to have 2 people on hand for anything larger then 10' but you'll have to judge the snake for yourself. The 10' rule is kind of like wearing a seat belt. Chances are you'll never need it, but it's a really good thing to have if you ever do. What I usually do is just call one of my boys to stand in the doorway while I'm cleaning or feeding the burms. They don't actually have to do anything but be there in case I have problems.

Ah, I see. well I live in a house of 4 people so getting a helper wont be too hard.

Well, it may. seeing as 4/5 people in my house are terrified of snakes. :D

    Male burm it is!!!!

I know of a place I can get a baby for 130$, and 15 bucks for shipping. Im about to get a job within the next week or two so ill have the money to build the enclosure and buy it

I cant wait now!!! I am so exited!!!

I have always LOVED the burm pattern. the regular burm is one of the most amazing looking snakes IMO. Red taisl are extremely gorgeous aswell

but I want a slightly larger snake. so burm all the way!

Hmmm, are you sure it's a wise idea to get a burm if the rest of the people you live with are terrified of snakes? Have you talked it over with them? Most of the burms I've worked with were rescues that needed to be kept for a while until they could be rehomed, due to their size it can be very difficult to find new homes for them. It'd be a shame to get a snake that you could only keep for a while before your room mates threatened to lynch you.

Don't get me wrong, burms are great snakes and have an amazing look, but you might want to do a bit more research before making a final decision.

well now, don't go rushing into anything! burms are very cool, but think about how long they live, and weather or not you will be able to fulfill it's needs for it's entire lifespan. will you have always have a helper on hand, even far off into the future? what if the snake escapes somehow, and nobody is around to help you get it back in? what if he's in a pissed off mood and comes after you? what if you get a mis-sexed burm (VERY unlikely if you plan on purchasing a male, but not 100% impossible) and end up with a gigantic female? you would have to build a whole new enclosure. can you financially support a burm, food-wise?

etc, etc. i just would hate to see you rush into something, only to realize it's not really what you wanted.

One of the giant species is nothing to rush into. Have you ever kept any large constrictors before? Are you truly ready for the male to reach the top of the general rule of size? What previous experience with constrictors do you have? Yes burms are cheap, but feeding a burm more expensive than say feeding a ball.

People rushing into getting a burm or tic is the reason there are so many rescues for adults. Someone may think they are prepared because they have a 4-5 foot snake so whats another few feet? A few feet in length can make a world of difference in girth and shear muscle. Do some research first. That little cute snake you'll buy will eventually turn into a giant. And if not taken care of and handled properly could become a monster.

I believe I can take care of it for 30 years, and I will have the money to feed it, I will be working 2 part time jobs as soon as I can so I can have money for my animals and for school

I am ofcourse going to be doing a ton of research

Well I have handle and house sit for my friend who owns a 10 foot RTB.

I have owned all kinds of snakes, I had an RTB when I was 14 but my parents forced me to give it up because at the time it was getting in the way of my grades at school. the RTB was 7 feet long

The thing I can honestly say no about is being ready for it to top at 15 feet.

I may end up getting a RTB again, but thats only if I decide I wont be able to handle a 15 footer. Again I gotta think about it some more and if I decide 15 foot is reasonable and manageable for me, then ill get it

If not ill just get a female RTB :)

But again like I said I gotta think about it some more. I surely wont jump into it to fast. It was probably the wrong thing to just decide on owning a burm so quickly

So for sure I will think about it much more

    Thanks!

another concern would be moving into a place with friends....good freakin' luck finding somebody to rent from that will allow a snake of such sheer size!

it's nice to hear that you're going to think it over some more though. it's definitely a decision i would sleep on for a long while.

be sure to post pictures when you are finished building the enclosure!

Yeha thats another thing, I would ofcourse have to find a place willing to have a snake that large in the building

Cant wait to post pictures of the enclosure :) As soon as I get the money to build it, im gonna do it asap LOL

    EIDT:

Hmm.. I may get a Yellow anaconda :D I just saw a picture of one on a website that sells them and I love them

even if I got a female it would only stay like 12 foot like a RTB.
