my first (sort of) hatchling!!!! photo overload

so this year our first-ever clutch of ball python eggs were laid, and now they are hatching!

unfortunately we had a bit of a tragedy with the first egg. the snake came out too early, with its entire yolk outside of it's body, completely unabsorbed. sadly, it passed away. you can read about it here if you wish. there is a picture of the hatchling and yolk included.

but on the bright side, we had one pip last night and fully emerge this afternoon, and it looks healthy as can be! looks to be a little normal het. albino. the albino mom was bred with a spider, as well as a pastel, so we're keeping our fingers crossed for some morphs! the 3rd egg has slit and is resting inside.

Very cute baby, and great photos! :gj: My first clutch is hatching right now too, so I understand the photo-happiness... I've taken like 50 pictures already, and only 4/6 babies have emerged. We're like proud new mothers, LOL! :D

looks like i got my spider :) :) i wrote the little "S" on the egg because while candling, it looked like a spider to me! and i'm pretty sure i was right, even though it's yet to fully emerge. some more photos!

Those are some nice looking snakes..... But I don't think that is a spider.

but I'M KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED! there's 2 eggs that haven't slit yet.

i'm assuming if one were a pastel it would be obvious right out of the egg, correct?

It's hard to tell sometimes when you can't even see the head. But I'm just not seeing anything that looks like a spider. But I could be wrong. Good Luck!!! What ever he/she turns out to be will be beautiful. :D

WELL LADIES AND GENTS!!!! i was so dead wrong about that one being a spider but...we got lucky. we got TWO spiders!!!!

they haven't emerged yet, one of the normals who came out last night was sitting on top of one of the spiders' eggs, lol.

siiiiiiiiiiigh the spiders are still hanging out in their eggs.

all 3 normals that hatched out have FANTASTIC patterns though! will get some aerial views tomorrow!

For the love of god, stop opening and harassing the eggs like all the "pros" do. If you really are convinced it's better, then do a small slit and leave it like that. Maybe you wouldn't have a dead one on your hands.

well excuse ME, mister 13 posts on the forum, if you had actually read the thread, you would know that the dead baby slit it's own egg, and emerged completely, 100% on it's own.

i don't cut eggs before they have slit on their own. once the snake has already slit and pipped, if they've been sitting there for a little while i like to look inside and snap a few photos.

so for the love of god, don't go blaming the death of a snake on somebody before you've read the whole post.
