    Favorable Spider Characteristics
In your opinions, what makes a spider a holdback? Reduced pattern, certain colors, high whites?

Also, would a certain characteristic make a better bumblebee than another if paired with a pastel?

It's all dependent on what you want and what you need. You are pretty limited on what to hold back based upon what sex animal you want. For instance if you were looking to hold back females and you only hit 1 or 2 females then you choices would be pretty limited and vice versa with males.

    With that being said....

I prefer a tri-tone spider with a nice light gold dorsal stripe and nice light tan coloration down the side where it meets a nice high white side. I also look for lots of orange and yellow speckling throughout the sides and bellies of my spiders. I prefer them to have as reduced a pattern as possible specifically on the head. At this point though, I would only hold back females, so I wouldn't care what they looked like as long as they were girls :P

Here is a picture of one of my hold back spiders. Notice the light gold stripe on the spine, and the light tan on the sides with plenty of white. This spider displays almost no head pattern and has no spots throughout it's pattern. This is by far one of the best spiders I've ever produced/seen.

Traits in snakes are so dependent on each persons individuals taste.
I like fully striped, all golden colored, high white with a full head pattern.
Reduced pattern spiders just don't do it for me.
We have one reduced pattern that I like, but mortly because she has yellow belly in her too :P

if breeding a spider to something else why holdback a spider, and not the combo...... if you produce the combo and it thrives thats my holdback

What do people mean by fully striped? If they mean a yellow stripe going down their backs with the spider webbing pattern on the sides, I don't particularily like that look myself. I DO like a black back spider with low pattern and no spots (so it looks like they have a chunk of barbed wire going down the middle of their back) High white/low white doesn't matter as much to me as the pattern.

I just bought a beautiful hi white male, very cheap, cause of high Wobble!! I love him, if nothing else he is a great snake around the kids, those that are squeamish at all. I swear he has no inner ear, if snakes have those. he lays in his tub upside down, looks like a puppy saying Scratch my belly!! I will see how he does as a breeder, he really is beautiful. Sorry not great at the pics dept.

He is 1000 grams, bought him for $100 Woo Hoo

We have the same taste so I second this. I'm not a fan of the high whites (although I do prefer that in Calico's/Sugars and Pied's)

I would really reconsider breeding a snake with such a bad wobble, as it could pass on to his offspring... then you've got a bunch of wobbly babies, who might not eat and will be hard to sell. Just my two cents, take it or leave it. ;)

To answer the original question, everyone has their own opinion on spiders - as for myself, I like a symmetrical back pattern, no side-spots, and medium white up the sides. I also love the spider faces, so a good "webby" head & face is appealing to me. Here's my yearling male spider, Vinnie, who I think is a good example of the morph. :)

    I don't believe that's true. From what I have read, it's a crap-shoot.

To answer the question, I like any spider I can afford :D

For me spiders are top of my must have list. I love Spiders and their combo's so for me it just depends.. I like symmetric patterns on the head and along the body. High white or low that really doesn't matter to me although I lean high white..

    So yea..

Oh one thing..NO SPOTS.. if it has alien Head Spots it really has to shine else where for me to consider it a keeper.

    This is my perfect keeper
