Yellowbelly pieds aka pumpkin pieds out!
Here are a couple of pre-shed pictures of our yellowbelly pieds, aka "pumpkin pieds" with a sibling pied that just hatched. They are everything we have been hoping for to say the least! The picture is pre-shed and I had to compensate for the flash wash-out, but I think you get the idea! We were planning on breeding our pastel pied male to our yellowbelly het pied female next year, but now I'm not so sure... We might want to make more just like these! Thanks for looking!

They're BEAUTIFUL Paul! Congrats on a job well done! :salute:

I MUCH prefer those over the Pastel Pieds. I'm not a fan of the PPs because the colors (especially the orange) are washed out.. One of the things I like best about Piebalds is the orange coloration which of course they tend to lose as adults. Maybe these guys will hold it longer.

    Best of luck with them.

Thanks Louis, I do seriously wonder if the pastel gene would do more harm than good, here. But... We might not be able to resist the temptation to just try it and see!

Pieds do vary a lot, even within a clutch, but we've hatched out quite a few like the one in the middle, so we're considering her a normal pied. Where the pattern goes from orange to black, it kind of blends, but in the yellowbelly pieds it as a very sharp transition with a black scale right next to an orange scale. It is a very high-contrast appearance. Also the orange color in the yellowbelly pied is more of a red-orange vs the yellow-orange coloration of the sibling.
