What is this??
For those of you who haven't seen my recent posts, I bred my pastel male to a few of my normal females. 2 out of the 3 clutches have hatched, and the second one is kinda weird. I was expecting a pastel or 2, but got from what it looks like none. The rest look pretty normal, but theres one that is strange. It has two perfect dots on both sides of its face, and is quite light in color on its sides. The top of the snake however appears normal. No faded head like pastels have a lot of the time, and the coloring is of normal pattern too. I'll leave it to you guys to decide. Is it just a weird pastel?

Someone please chime in I'm going crazy over here trying to figure this one out lol

Re: What is this??
Unless they were both het for something the only logical conclusion I can think of is that it's just a pastel.

honestly,not to burst ur bubble but,looks normal.
theres alwase a chance for a dinker , and if its a female id hold on to her. just my 2 cents
.
*just wanted to say that the whole clutch is verry cool, bottom left looks verry dark and the top left has verry cool fadeing.*

Re: What is this??
Maybe I'm nuts...
Tomorrow if its out and about I'm going to snap more pics. Its A LOT lighter then its siblings. Probably is just a dinker, but I'm gonna keep it around and see what happens.
Thanks for all your opinions :)

Re: What is this??
ya it looks like a normal, wait itl it get outs and u clean it up. try to take some good shots of its head

What is the belly like? Looks like a very light Normal but if the belly is completely clear I would say Pastel... It's interesting to say the least and a good holdback for some dinker projects in the future.. also... take a look at the eye color... any greenish tint to them?
Nice Clutch.. congrats :)

It looks normal to me. I'd say wait until it has the first shed, then look for green eyes, and pastel coloration. Many times freshly hatched babies will look much lighter or odd until the have the first shed. I believe the coloration is the last thing on hatchlings to finish forming so some babies come out looking odd(like the sides look pinkish, or very pale) but they darken to normal once they've matured a little more.
If it's still very light once it's shed, it could be a very light normal, a pastel(depending on other attributes) or a "dinker".
Congrats on the successful hatch!

Re: What is this??
Not really sure - but wow - in the future, I'd recommend making your cuts MUCH smaller than that - a small "V" is more than sufficient. Cut enough to allow the snake to find its way out of the egg when its ready.

Re: What is this??
The cuts were just normal slits, but once he was basically out I just kinda ripped the slit back a little bit to get a better look. I promise they weren't cut like that from the get go lol. My last clutch on the other hand looked like edward scissor hands got a hold of my clutch. Won't ever do that again ;)
It doesn't look to have the green eyes that pastels usually have. Thats what I mean it appears normal, but still looks weird to me. It could just need a shed or two to make it look really normal. But regardless I'm holding this one back. I love the two spots on the nose, and the pattern on it is awesome. I said at the beginning of these clutches I would love to get a dinker, and I got it!! So I'm pretty happy even though I didn't get many pastels.
4 eggs still waiting to pip, today is day 52 so hopefully I'll see some pastels in that clutch and make up with some killer odds. *Fingers Crossed*
Thanks for all your opinions!! Later on when I'm feeding everyone I'm going to try to get some better pics of the "weirdo." Is it a big deal if 2 of them still has the umbilical still attached, or should I wait till it comes off before I take them out of the incubator? It doesn't look like it "needs" it anymore. Looks nasty and is just kinda hanging there, and not much color to it.

Man maybe its just me but when i look at the first pics i do see a possible pastel but without the blushing and then in the last pic they all look so dark it goes back to normal. but u might just have a really clean and light normal and that could be worth holding on to if u wanna breed with a true pastel u could come up with some really clean and bright pastels. wish you the best of luck with the next batch
