What was your first snake?

Mine was a California Kingsnake. Whats yours?

Mine was a ball python, but unfortunately it passed away shortly after buying it. I still currently own ball pythons though.

Mine was/is my Redtail Boa, only had her since february or march lol

She is my go to snake when someone new wants to handle one. She is the calmest most well-adjusted reptile i own.

My first snake ever was a garter snake my dad caught and brought home for me when I was a little kid. I was terrified of it, until I finally held it, then I was hooked.

Mine was a Guyana red tail boa BCC I was hooked as soon as heard I could have him from 1 month old till he was 7' then I had to move so couldn't take him unfortunatly ... the ball pythons where easier to hide LOL

I didn't know anything about morphs. I was at the brand new reptile store and there are about 10 or so brown snakes and one yellow snake. The brown snakes were about $60 each the yellow was $250. The yellow snake looked like candy next to the others, so I got the yellow one.

Didn't find out about morphs until the guy who sold me the rats to feed the snake recommended this site. And that was after I bought the spider one from craigslist - he was soooo pretty - like Jimmy Choo shoes leather. He is still my favorite.

Out of ignorance, I got a female pastel and a male spider. And today, we have 2 bumblebee children. Quite interesting hobby we got into here.

I've wanted snakes since I can remember, and bp's specifically since three years ago (I finally got him lol) and I remember when we had the reptile guy come to the local library with his massive boa I always tried to convince my mom to buy it off of him because I loved it so much! :P

Does anyone else find it kind of sad that most peoples first snake was store bought? My first snakes were wild caught Eastern garter snakes that I caught when I was 7 years old and kept in an old aquarium in our garage. I fed them frogs all summer long that I caught in the swamps around our house and then let them go in the autumn. I never actually bought a snake until I was 18, it was a normal corn snake.

Dunno what you mean by sad. A snake gets within 50 feet of my house when I lived with my parents it gets whacked. If not by the doberman, then by my dad's shovel. Ok, maybe that is sad. But, it is standard operating procedure in the Philippines.

I used to try and sneak in snakes I caught all the time. I'd keep them for a week, month, whatever until I got caught by my parents lol. Snakes got me in trouble more than anything. I guess my first one was probably a water snake though

My mom's ex husband has a baby bp when I was really little. I don't remember it much but he was terrified of it. He wore gloves to handle it, and knowing him probably let it go in the yard. He kind of instilled a fear in me, but when we rescued two Classics about two years ago (from a woman who was going to let them go because the had RIs and mouth rot) I got over it quickly. I count those as my firsts.

My dad found a worm snake at work and brought it home for me. I was in elementary school. I brought it to school for show and tell and during lunch a little boy took the snake and let it go outside because he thought I wasn't feeding it. So he ended up giving me a parakeet with cage to say he was sorry. I'd rather have had the snake. I am just not a bird person.

I've always wanted a snake since I was like 8 years old. However I was never allowed to have one. I just recently purchased a normal ball python 2 months ago, and just last night picked up a Dumeril's Boa. Couldn't be happier. Both snakes are really tame, and are great!

My first was an amel corn snake, I got her when I was 8 (16 years ago). Amels are very common now (and still kind of were back then) but I thought that having a pink snake was just the coolest darn thing in the world back then, and STILL consider amel corns to be one of the prettiest snakes ever produced by herpetoculture.

She passed away just before I went to college.

my first was a gopher snake that i had rescued from a bunch of idiots at work then i kept him/her for a couple days only to release it couple days later and buy my normal bp from petsmart almost $100 later i realized i could have gotten exact same one for cheaper but i wouldnt do it different if i had to i love my $100 normal girl she is awesome
