one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
so our clutch of 6 started hatching today, day 56. Albino X Spider, and we also paired her with a Pastel.
this is what came out :'( :'(

i am crying so hard right now, i don't even know what to do with the poor thing, when i noticed it had pipped last night, i got so excited, and i came back home today to see the snake mostly out of the egg, and the yolk was beside it. the snake was just laying there, almost motionless. i gave it a poke and it seemed to tense up a bit where i poked it. it's not dead...but i fear it will pass soon :( :( :( it is very limp.
this is my first ball clutch, and i am so so so so upset. i have put it in a container with a wet paper towel, and i've covered it with a black hoodie so it doesn't get too freaked out by the light.
obviously it hatched too early, is there any reason why? my temps are around 87-88, being closer to 84-85 for the first month or so of incubation. and like i said, today is day 56.

I can't help you with this, but just wanted to say I hope it all works out!!! Good luck with the little guy...I'm sure we all hope he pulls through! *hug*

Re: one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
Is there a knot or tangle in the umbilicus somewhere? If not, just keep it on wet paper towels and it should absorb the yolk just like it was still in the egg. You may even want to put it in a smaller container if you have one to reduce the chance of it trying to crawl around and ending up with a torn umbilicus.

Re: one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
Not a good sign that the yolk hasn't been absorbed...do you know any local breeders in your area who may be able to help?

I have a feeling that the lower temps played a big part in this..my question is did you clip the eggs or did they pip on their own? Day 56 is about right to see heads if you were incubating at 88-89 for 60 days but 84-85 for over 30 of that they should have taken the full 60 before they even pipped on their own.. are any of the others pipped?

Re: one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
i don't see any sort of knot or anything, there's probably close to an inch of purple "stuff" sticking out, which i guess is the umbilical cord. i talked to Henry Piorun, and he said it's weird that it would pip and come out so early, but it's not unheard of. i was too flustered to ask if it could have been related to temps. one thing i also thought of is maybe the rats were crashing around and scared it? Henry said the best i can do is wait a day or two and see if it absorbs any of the yolk. if not, i should tie it off and snip it, because the yolk will get stinky and gross. the snake is in a small container with wet paper towel, and i put it back in the incubator. do you think that's good, or should i take him out of the bator? i really hope he's okay, my heart is so broken right now

i did not clip it, i saw a slit in the egg last night, and a bit of nose this morning but when i came home from work it's head, most of his body, and yolk were out. the only thing still in the egg was the very tip of it's tail. no, none of the others have pipped so far, and at this point, i sure hope they don't.

Re: one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
Leave him in the incubator, you want to keep him warm so the yolk doesn't solidify on you. I had one leave the egg earlier this year with the yolk still attached, ended up tearing the umbilicus before absorbing all the yolk, and now he's the biggest from the clutch. :gj:

that gives me a little tiny bit of hope. i just feel like it's a bad dream and i'm going to wake up any second. yes, i know, it's a little dramatic, but that's just how i feel right now :( i really hope he absorbs some yolk, though, as it he's very very weak, and i couldn't even imagine him eating right now. i can tell he's still alive because he jolted a little when i moved him, but he's kind of like a limp noodle right now

Re: one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
@m00kfu, any idea why it would exit the egg if it was clearly too early?
-
Re: one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
i just looked at the pics again, and it looks like there's a teeny tiny kink at the very end of his tail :(

Re: one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
I have never seen that much unabsorbed yolk but leave him be on a clean area safe from the others and normally the yolk will absorb with 24 hours.

Re: one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
sorry "Her", and yes unabsorbed yolks are known to happen in all egg bearers.

To be honest I have no idea. Just happens sometimes I guess. :confuzd: No clue why mine had done it either. Give him a few days, I'll bet he livens up a bit.
-
This sometimes happens--keep him on wet paper towel, and give him a little mist with water once in a while. Keep him in the incubator. The more of that yolk he can aborb, the better off he will be.
Don't worry too much that he's weak--hatchlings with so much unabsorbed yolk like this often are. If he doesn't have anything wrong internally, he may very well rally in a couple of days and have better muscle tone.

for those of you that have had this happen, did it seem to be an isolated incident, or was the entire clutch effected? i asked my boyfriend to check on the snake, and he didn't say anything when he came out of the room, so i fear the worst. i just don't want to talk about it right now, but i want to have a bit of hope for the rest of my babies. this has been a really bad year as far as my snakes go.

Re: one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
sigh it happened to mine but mined did it due to a heat spike.....I still cant get an explanation to why we seem to be the only ones lacking cool air....aside from that I think maybe this breeding season just isn't the best for a lot of us....chin up really not your fault sometimes it's natures way

Re: one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
I hope the little one pulls through for you!
-
i asked my boyfriend to check on the snake, as i was too sad to look at it curled up in it's little container. when he came out of the room, he didn't say anything.
unfortunately, the little one has passed away.
RIP, Thirteen
right now i'm sitting here praying that the rest DON'T pip, because i'm afraid they won't be ready. i've went through everything in my head a million times, and i can only think that maybe the snake pipped, and the rats beside the incubator crashed around and caused it to flee the egg? why does everything need to be justified with a reason? i don't know.
i guess he just wasn't meant to make it. i feel really down and discouraged today, but i'm trying to keep my head up. i hope my excitement for the rest of the clutch comes back in the next day or two.
sigh, i know i should just stop thinking about it.
thanks for all your support.
-
I'm sorry to hear that, I hope all of your other little ones come out healthy.
-
The kink in his tail suggests slightly that he may have had more wrong with him than what could be seen on the outside. I'm sorry he didn't make it for you.
-
I"m sorry for your loss:(

Re: one came out with yolk :'( :'( now what?!
My first clutch I had hatch out this year had THE SAME PROBLEM! I had one that was tangled though, but still for some reason wasn't absorbing the yolk. I had to remove him from the egg, and died shortly after :(. Also, only one out of the whole clutch had a normal tail. I believe it was a temp spike, because one time I caught it over 95 once. My second clutch is piped and almost out and I'm happy to say there all doing great. Don't let results like this fool you. I was really bummed out too, but just stay positive and don't beat yourself up too much. I consider myself lucky to be able to learn so much in a short amount of time. Some people breed with the best luck and not have something like this happen for a while. At least we got it out of the way, and have some experience if it happens again. Again, stay positive, and good luck!!

thanks again for the encouraging words, everybody.
another egg has pipped, but the snake has yet to emerge. i am very excited, but kind of afraid the same thing is going to happen.
i do have my fingers, and everything else, crossed!! i will be sure to post some (better looking) pictures

the snake has emerged! you can view it's thread here!
