help?
what is the size ratio of mouse to snake. i bought a small mouse for my bp but i dont know if she will eat it. it might be to big and i dont want her to regurge. she is about a foot and half long but she is kinda thin from when i bought her

Re: help?
The prey should be as big around as the widest part of the snake. Your snake sounds big enough to eat an adult mouse.

Re: help?
I have always been told to feed 15% of the total body weight and to never feed a prey that is larger than the largest point of the snakes body

Re: help?
alright thanx. she ate it no problem but the ouse was a lil bit bigger then the roundest part of her body. i hope she doesnt regurge but i think she will be fine. thanx

Re: help?
If it's only a little bigger, she'll be fine.

I agree...just be sure next time to make sure it's about the same size. If it's a lot bigger than the snake, they could not only throw it up, but could end up with broken ribs :( and you don't want that...
Glad to hear they ate for you though. ;)

Re: help?
if it is too big for her do you think she would have refused it like stopped eating it or spit it back out or will she just eat it anyways? someone told me that if the snake thinks its to big all it will do is strike at it or not do anything at all.

Re: help?
I've always been told that if they know it's too big for them they won't try to eat it, but if they're really hungry they might. So watch the meal sizes normally, and be extra careful if she goes off feed for a while because then she might be tempted to take anything when she starts eating again.

Re: help?
oh ok. she hasnt gone off feed. i fed her last week but all she had was 1 fuzzie mouse and then this week she had a small adult mouse cuz thats all my supplier had. he never has anything when i go in there so i have to get something a lil bit bigger or something smaller. but she is doing fine right now, she has been in her hide eversince she ate.

OK - I had to come and look for this post, because the OP then passed on this information as advice to someone else.
Where did you get your information about the broken ribs? I've personally never experienced, and until your post, I've never, ever heard anyone claim that their animal got broken ribs from food that was too large.
This is to everyone who is relatively new to keeping these wonderful animals - please, please, please don't regurgitate information that someone else has given you. Independently verify that the information is correct. And if you want to share what someone else has told you, but that you haven't personally experienced yourself - it's probably best to preface it with "While I don't have personal experience with this - I've been told that..........", rather than stating that piece of information as fact.
We LOVE that everyone is here trying to help each other, but we really need to make sure we're sharing ACCURATE information, not anecdotal information. :)
