Strange Behavior

As a first time BP owner i have been educating myself how to be a proficient and caring owner..I have an 8 month old female BP named Jazzmin.She is quite the lady..She has recently changed in behavior that has coinsided with her most recent shed,which was messy to say the least.keep in mind that tank conditions are identical to the last shed which was a complete problem free event.she no longer goes into her hide.she has burrowed herself under her water bowl that came with the tank.its made of porcellen and looks like a little pond,and she wedges herself into the gaps in the mold.the last 3 days she has hung out in the wide open,but at night shes all over her cage,very active.also she is a little over 25 inches long.is this a normal size for her age.and any other opinions on what shes been doing will be appreciated

Verify all of your temps are good. Have you recently move or changed anything in the enclosure?...

Mine roams and hangs out of the hide when she is hungry.

Thank you for responding...Tank temp is around 84 to 86 degrees humidity is between 50 and 60 ..daytime and 76 to 80 degrees and around 60 percent at night....also fed her this past tuesday...she shouldnt be hungry...should she?

she only ate 5 days ago

I guess that would depend on the size of your snake and the size of the food she has been eating. I have a hatchling that eats a regular mouse every 5 days.

Did you check her for mites?

It's possible that she's hungry, that's what mine does when he gets snackish. How warm is your basking spot in the enclosure?

Do you have a hot side? The temps needs to be 80-85 on the cool side and 89-93 on the warm side. I think you need to have another look at the care sheet.

ur snake is prolly hungry. with the smaller ones its good to feed every 5 days.

Your temperatures are not correct.
Daytime and night time should be the same, or maybe a drop of 1-2 degrees. Hot side should be 90-92, cool side should be 74-84.
Check the care-sheet again, and try to get those temps up, should fix your problem.:)

That sounds about right.unfortunately so many BP owners with varying opinions about BP care.just trying to find some middleground.Everybody has been so helpful.should i have two temp/humidity gauges in both ends of her tank.that way i can monitor them better?also i have made her a new hide out of a tupperware bowl and for the first time in almost a week she went right in and seems to be happy.maybe old one was smallish and didnt make her feel safe..trial and error i guess.we were all new at this one time or another

what would i be looking for and what do they look like?

Yes, I think two probes should be used to monitor temperature. Not gauges, they are inaccurate at best, harmful at worst.
Thermostats with probes and a thermometer with a probe (or a temp gun) are recommended for keeping proper temperatures.:) I recommend herpstats.

i second this! all my 3 bps do this all the time (when hungry)

mites will look like Lil specks that move check under it's mouth is how i usually spot them in-between the scales you will see what looks kind of like a grain of sand.
sometimes you will see them crawling around on the snakes could be anywhere from head to tail

but like i said 9 out of 10 times if you got mite you can see them very easy under there chin in the skin fold right in the middle of there chin

a not realy a sure sign but a way that will help you to rember to check for mites is if the snake always seems to lay in the water bowl even after shedding. by this i mean it shed lets say last Tuesday but is still laying in the water bowl i'd check for mites and ticks. but since you didn't say anything about yours soaking all the time i'd say it is just hungry.

or could even be you just cleaned the cage in the last few days before it started roaming but my money is on hungry

No offense taken...Im new at this and i value all of you guys as guides to taking optimim care of my girl..Good news she made short work of a mouse tonight and seems quite content right now...looking forward to picking your brains in the future...thanx for everything

im glad she ate, just try and keep a consistant schedule and keep ur husbandry up to par and u shoud be fine :gj:
