My bp's eye looks dented.
I was lookin at her real close today and noticed or what looked like her left eye is dented in. Not sure how or when this happened. I havent really handled her much, maybe she fell off a branch or somthin. Iv noticed that shes been hiding in her log for the past 4 days or so. I can see her moving around and somtimes when i look, shes got her head pokin out kinda lookin around. Should i worry?
Re: My bp's eye looks dented.
It is from LOW humidity.
A bump up in that department will help you.

My humidity gauge says its 65% or so. I have a digital one and it says its always 50% or more. The dial one says 60-70.
Re: My bp's eye looks dented.
You could throw the analog gauge away and probably get a better reading. Stick with what the Digital says.
Re: My bp's eye looks dented.
The dial one im talkin about is the Exo Terra one that came with my tank, that one says 65% right now and is always around there. Digi says 57%
Re: My bp's eye looks dented.
Isnt 60-70% where it should be?
Re: My bp's eye looks dented.
Sounds like a retained eye cap, caused by low humidity. Is her water bowl deep enough for her to submerge?

Oh ya its big enough, she has 2, 1 small and 1 large. the big one is full ttt.
Re: My bp's eye looks dented.
put one of the water bowls over the UTH and that should raise the humidity even more. what is your setup like?
Re: My bp's eye looks dented.
I live in the desert and I frequently see this with my BP. My humidity is fine, it's that she needs to drink more water. Shortly after drinking, the eye returns to normal.
Do ensure your humidity is correct, and then make sure your snake has access to clean water at all times. That being said, you can't force them to drink.

i change her water every day in both dishes so she has lots, wonder why she dosent want any??
Re: My bp's eye looks dented.
I've noticed that BP's don't drink hardly, as alot of their moisture intake comes from eating. Try and get the humidity to 80 percent. Better results at that rate.
Re: My bp's eye looks dented.
Yeah, it's just a little low on humidity. Luckily it's not something to freak out about. It will come back with more humidity. I have had a couple do that, but higher humidity tends to fix it just fine.
Re: My bp's eye looks dented.
Will high humidity hurt the snake after a while? My tub was reading 82% but thought that wouldn't be good over long periods of time so I drilled more holes to get it down to 65%. During shed i put a moist paper towl inside for added humidity.
Re: My bp's eye looks dented.
to the OP: this happened to my snake a long time ago.. i bumped up the humidity by lightly misting the cage and the next day, it was gone. on the thread that I started, someone said they dipped the BPs head in water and it was fixed.. lol... i don't suggest it, but it lets you know your BP is probably dehydrated..
mist the cage - bump up the humidity - wait.

keeping the enclosure to humid could lead to a respiratory infection, but when the snake is in shed, the extra humidity would make shedding easier. that's why people suggest to bump the humidity when the snake is in shed. :gj:
