Day 50 and I'm itching to cut.

My 2 surviving het clown to het clown eggs are on day 50. I am off work today, so I'm having a hard time resisting the urge to cut. I can't help but check on them constantly. I candled, but don't see any pattern. They are definitely alive and kickin' though. I need to get out of the house and try to forget about them.

Get a better flashlight and go into a pitch dark room. You should definitely be able see pattern by now. What temp are you incubating at?

I'm incubating at 89. I guess my flashlight doesn't have a small enough tip to really seal against the egg. It is one of those small home depot LED flashlights. All I can see are the veins and movement.

Yeah, I made it through the morning, and now the kids are home from school to distract me. Tomorrow I'm back to work, so I should be able to hold off till one of them pips.

What do you long time breeders do when you only have a couple eggs in a clutch? Do you still wait until one pips, or do you cut at day 53-55 just in case they are both having a hard time cutting on thier own?

Not a long time breeder but I do like to wait as long as possible..

I second that....wait till day 55 at least....wouldn't want to take the chance of messing up a perfectly healthy hatchling (even though I know exactly how you feel....wait till you cut the eggs and then if you're like me you'll be checking the incubator every 15 minutes to see if any have decided to crawl outta the egg :D:D)

HeHe. Yeah, I'd definitely be checking every 15 minutes. I can definitely make it till day 55.

So I'll start you off ... go pick me a pineapple out of a palm tree :P (keep ya lookin for a while that ways)

Actually, since I was off today, my wife did give me a honeydo list. It definitely helped. That and browsing the tool section at Home Depot for a couple hours.

there are people that cut as early as day 45. i cut a two egg clutch early (day 51) and defiantly regretted it. they are both fine but after i cut i was SOOO worried about them and i drove me CRAZY:rolleye2: it's definatly better to wait, even if its just for your sake.

I would wait until day 55, and go from there also.

Just so ya know, cutting them doesn't make the wait any better. Yeah you may know what you have, but nothing beats when there out and moving. Thats when I personally felt "relief." Waiting for them to come out of the egg after you cut I think is even worse :P

well i have cut from day 43 and to day 55 and anywhere between. Im also known as edward scissor hands too... if ur cutting at day 43-50 exspect to get some white film over the egg towards the end but i actually know people that cut at day 32 and still hatch fine......

I've cut all mine this year at day 51, and all were out by day 54. 90 degree incubation.

LOL, I was actually trying to get talked out of cutting. I'm still gonna wait a couple more days. I was originally planning on day 52-53, but I'm leaning towards 54-55 now if one hasn't pipped yet.

Just an update. I ended up cutting on day 54. They were both normal possible hets. I was actually able to keep my mind off it after I cut. Not knowing what they were was driving me nuts. If one had been a clown I may have kept stressing until it came out though. I am not too disappointed since I didn't really have very high hopes with only 2 surviving eggs(3 others died at day 37ish). I am actually very excited just to have a couple beautiful little snakes go full term(almost full term at least). The first one peeked out of his pre-pipped egg today. I hope they are girls!

Congrats! Looks like he/she has a really nice neck-stripe, maybe even going down the body? So, how many days was it from the time you cut until they pipped? I'm on day 56-57 here, and fighting the urge to cut...

I cut on day 54 and the first peeked out on day 57. The other is still fine, but hasn't peeked out as of day 58. Still no white film/bacteria growth inside.

Looks like we're on almost the same schedule, LOL. I ended up cutting after the first pip last night (technically day 57), but they're still chillin' in the eggs... one or two have popped their heads out, but the rest seem pretty comfortable inside! :rolleyes: The first one to pip should emerge soon, though, since the egg is almost completely dried out.

First baby came all the way out late last night after I posted. The other one peeked out last night and now has about 30% of its body out.
