I've gotten splinters that hurt longer and worse than getting bite by any of my snakes..even some of the bigger ones.. Even burning the roof of your mouth on pizza is worse and worse for longer

It's a bit of an adrenalin rush when a snake strikes out at you and bites, but the bite itself isn't really anything to worry about. I get more damaging bites playing with my dog.

Bingo...:gj::gj::gj: I'd rather get blindsided than get struck at..Funny how that works isn't it.. there's something about the strike that bothers me more than the bite..even in little ones

    -Tattoos and piercings hurt worse.
-Wasp and bee stings hurt worse.
-Cutting your fingernail or toenail into the quick hurts worse.
    -Biting your tongue hurts worse.
    -A sunburn hurts worse.
-Puppy teeth and cat claws hurt worse.
-I'll surely take a snake bite any day over a rat bite. Rodents can cut to the bone.
-I'll even take a snake bite over getting sprayed by a skunk...

0.5 is about all I'd give it. Once in a while I might get tagged on a knuckle or get a papercut type wound right on the cuticle and it stings. Half the time I have to wait to see if there's blood to see if I can count it as a bite or not. Baby BPs are hysterical when they try to kill you. They look so serious about it.

Now.. the blackthroat monitors I've avoided getting bitten by.. I like keeping all ten fingers.

Another thing is where you get bit at, my female bp just struck for the first time we've had her. Worst part about it wasn't the bite, more of that she got me right by the cutical and on the 2nd joint. We're both fine, I'm bloody and shook up a bit... her on the other hand is put into a tub until I'm done cleaning.
Fyi This happned like 5 mins ago and I can't stop shaking lmao I'm more nervous of picking her up again than I would be getting bucked off a horse and getting back on.

Yep and then you might go months or ever years before you get bit again.. Come hang out with me for a week.. you'll get over that getting shook up part..I still hate getting bit..but by now you just rub a little dirt in it and keep going.. LOL :gj:

    Congrats on your first bite..

Yeah I agree a 1 is the most I would give it. It is not painful just the shock of the strike is what terrifies people. Lol I have been bit and didn't even know it until I notice a little spot of blood, my dragons have a worse bite... :D

Actually my fist bite was a baby rat snake where I worked, that was funny no pain just felt like velco sticking to my thumb. Was laughing at it thinking "That's all I was afriad of?" I don't blame her at all, I probably haven't pulled her out since Marchish and the little handling I've done is just push her out of the way to spot clean or add water. I might've smelled like mouse too, few mins before I was digging through some stuff in the garage.

    Re: Getting bit
I'd say one if that, for a defensive bite.

    BUT!

One time, one of my bigger ones nailed me. He got a hold of my pointer finger, and thought it was a rat lol. He held on for about 5 seconds trying to get a better grip, and let go. I'd give that a 2 lol. Didn't hurt, but definitely hurt more then a defensive nip. When they tag you, its like you don't even feel it. I usually bug out and jump like a baby, but laugh when its done. Its funny because you jump even though you know its not going to hurt

i would say 1 Ive been struck once it was so fast i didn't know i was hit until it saw the blood, the last 3 times i was bit(last time was 3 weeks ago) he always smells the bone behind my wrist, latches and coils then after like 2-4 mins he lets go cause he cant kill my arm, heck of a grip though!

my big albino boy bit me and i didn't notice. i thought he just quickly ran into his hide, so i didn't flinch or jump - i just moved my hand and looked if he went into his hide or balled up or something... so i'm changing his bowl and i notice a little tiny dot of blood on my finger... when i found out i got bit i just chuckled and closed his tub :D

    they're so cute haha :P

I used to be afraid of snakes until I got my boyfriend one for his birthday 3 years ago and since then we have been adding to the collection, and my fear was subsiding. My first bite was from our rescue RTB and the largest snake in our collection. The actual bite he gave me was less than a one but seeing it comeing was an 10+ for me and I still fear him when he looks at me in a strike position.

Back when I got my first ink, I was scared to death. I'm a recovering needle-phobic and someone told me a tattoo is like a prolonged bee sting. GOD I HATE BEE STINGS, they hurt BAD, so I was scared to death.

Now I'm addicted to tattooing and can't even come close to affording all the ink I want, it doesn't hurt hardly at all unless you get certain sting-y colours. ;)

Wasps and bees hurt WAY worse than tattoos, most piercings, and on par with large dog bites.

I work in a grooming salon. I work with dogs. I've been ripped up plenty by dogs that physically outweigh me. I was attacked very viciously a few months ago...a massive black Lab (yeah you read that right, I'll groom a DOZEN UNKNOWN PIT BULLS rather than do a single freaking Labrador. SERIOUSLY. Four of five bites I get are LABS. Chew on THAT, supporters of breed-based legislation!) grabbed my right arm in his mouth, bit down HARD, held on and shook me like a rag doll. I'm a smallish fellow, he was almost as heavy as I, and he tore me up...smashed me into a wall a few times...it was ugly.

Me gladly admitting I'd rather get tagged by every snake I own before getting bit by a puppy has helped some of my co-workers overcome their fear of snakes. Heck, I'd take getting bit in the face by my biggest Ball over being bit by an eight-week-old Lab puppy.

Long story short, the suprise and shock ("OMG, I GOT TAGGED!!!!") of being bit by a python is a lot worse than the actual pain. ;)

I'd give it a 1 for pain, and a 10 for being cool. :gj:

The thing that does hurt, though, is your elbow from jumping back and hitting your funny bone on the corner or something...

Being bitten is extremly shocking as opposed to the actual bite. Being bitten hirts like a 1, the shock of it is like a 7-8 even when you see it coming

From small snakes 1. For my bigger 6-7 footters 1-2. I was bit on the thumb once and it didn't hurt but my thumb swelled up.

This is a bite from my smallest snake I got. It's a young BRB. It happened about a week ago. I still got the bruise a little. It didn't really hurt. Just felt like a big pinch.

Ball pythons bites are a 0.5 - 1 at best.

I was terrified of getting bitten at first, after my first I was like " THAT is what I was scared of ?"

Now I don't even flinch when one snaps at me.

A month ago at a show, a decent size pastel got me, I didn't even know it until 20 minutes later. I'm guessing the bite didn't hurt. :)

    Re: Getting bit
I've never been bit by a ball python. But I have been bitten several times by dogs and I'd imagine a snake bite wont hurt that bad.. they dont really have that crushing power that other animals have. And their teeth are razor sharp, i think duller bigger teeth make it hurt more lol I got bit by one of my garfish when i was a kid and i hardly noticed that until it started itching and they seem to have teeth similar to snake teeth.

But I dont think it's very smart to compare pain of a bee sting to pain of .. anything. the pain from a bee sting is just a immune response reacting to the toxins in the venom. And everyone reacts a little differently. Some people bee stings dont hurt much at all and some people they hurt like hell, like me for instance, I have no fear of bees but when I get stung it swells up like a golf ball and hurts worse than when i had a brick fall from 9ft up and land on my head. I actually have a little pet wasp nest in an aquarium next to my fishtank haha.

I guess I just got good reflexes o_o coz I had 28 snakes at one time at one point and got struck at plenty of times, and I'd go catch rat snakes and big fat garters but I always manage to dodge out of the way or grab it before it can land a hit.. I kinda wish Id have failed to dodge and actually got bit by a larger snake I'm curious what it feels like. I'm more afraid of the latching on and coiling than the actual bite.

One more reason NOT to let a snake get anywhere near your face. :colbert:
