Congrats CONTEST WINNERS!! -- July 2010
What great contests last month! Tons of awesome pictures to choose from! A very hearty congrats to each of our winners!!

Herp of the Month -- jfreels

Photo of the Month -- Patrick Long
    https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil.../img_84655.jpg

July's POTM theme was "Macro Riddles"...so I sincerely hope Patrick will post a zoomed-out version of his beautiful photo. Each person who entered the contest can also share their macro and zoomed-out picture in this thread if they like. I know for sure one of the zoomed-out images is pretty spectacular. ;) Mine was just a bowl of thumb tacks. :P (Make sure you upload your macro images again, as they will have to be deleted from the contest gallery...except for Patrick's.)

NEXT month's POTM theme will be ZOO CREATURES. This is a recurring theme because we all love animals and just about everyone can easily participate if they wish to. Please submit any picture that you personally have taken of an animal in captivity at a public zoo or aquarium. Any sort of park open to the public where animals are kept is fine...wildlife parks, aquariums, sea world, zoos...whatever, so long as it's not a private collection. AND...just to put a twist on this month's theme....CAPTIONS are allowed to be placed on the photo...but are not required. HAVE FUN!!

Once again, congrats to each of our contest winners!!! You're all very talented!!!

I was looking through my photos and could NOT for the life of me find the zoomed out viersion of this photo. So I will explain.

This is rolled up napkins with a piece of Plastic Wrap layed on top. I then dumped cocoa powder over the Wrap, making the "cave-like" floor.

Then I placed little pieces of rock candy into the Cocoa powder. Those pieces are about double or triple the size of a grain of rice, so very small indeed.

I then turned out all the lights in the kitchen, set my camera to a 15 second exposure, and took out my LED keychain.

I then Spotlit each crystal for about 1-2 seconds with the LED....and badda bing badda boom. Wham Bam Thank You Maam.

Very cool, Patrick... I thought yours was one of those "make your own crystal garden" science experiments, or whatever those are called. And the whale picture is amazing - I never would've guessed that was the zoomed-out image!

My photo was number 5, which was in second place last time I checked. :gj: To be perfectly honest, I forgot about the whole "riddle" aspect when I submitted my photo... so there's not much of a mystery to solve. It's just a close-up of a tiny spiderweb on a bush, with fog/dew drops hanging off. I guess the mystery could be the size, since it might pass for a much larger web (it was only about 2-3 inches across). Great photos everyone!
