What is the funnest thing you do with your snake?
I'm curious as to what everyone does when they get there BP's out to play. So what do you and your BP usually do?
-
Re: What is the funnest thing you do with your snake?
I don't "play" with mine - they really only tolerate handling. I sit quietly with them, admire their colors and patterning and then put them back up and appreciate that they once again allowed me to enjoy them.

Pretty much the same. I rotate a schedule where I clean 2 bins a day and during the cleanings I keep the BP around my neck while I clean their tub to keep them tolerant of human interaction. Other than that I try not to take them out too much to avoid stress.
If I want an anaimal to play with I'll get a cat or dog.

I play "fetch the rat" with mine, but they won't give the rat back :P

lol, this just made my day:D
True the funnest part of keeping BP's for me is feeding day!

Re: What is the funnest thing you do with your snake?
The only "fun" thing I do with my BP's is letting my 3 year old daughter hold them and learn about them. I only let her hold my males since they are a lot calmer and it usually once every week or two for about 3-5 minutes. Other then that, feeding day is the only day that is really fun for the both of us.

I like to show him to my kid neighbours from time to time, and on nice, quiet days, I let him explore the grass outside of my house

PixieMaple, thats what I was looking for. As soon as my new baby ball is comfortable enough and its a nice enough day, I would like to do that.

Re: What is the funnest thing you do with your snake?
Mine like to play computer games with me. Akashi, Koroku, Kuri, and Mauro are all computer junkies.
Nago is a napper, he like to sleep with his head on my shoulder when I read.
Kina loves a good game of hide and seek under the blanket on my bed.
Toki is a model, she loves to see how long she can hold a pose.
Mystic and Yakul just play turtle with me.
Little Okoto likes to play tug-o-rat with me, so I watch my fingers with him.
Little Kodama doesn't come out to play yet, he doesn't trust me.

I get mine back, but by that time I really really do not want it.

Yeah, it's fun to watch them explore the grass. My guy lifts about a third of his body so he can look further - pretty cute. Just make sure you aren't freaking people out - I, personally, have some neighbours who would faint if they saw my snake in the grass

Can't wait until I have a story

But that's the best part. XD
I once took mine to the mall (he just sat around my neck for a while) and walked through Hollister. Oh my god, the squeals and screams were so hilarious.
Unfortunately, I think he's getting to big to sneak past mom. XD

I just watch them, heck just a minute ago I watched my Albino drink out of his water bowl.

This is fascinating to me. I'm floored by the degree of personification attributed to each animal, as if they have likes and dislikes and cognitive opinions or hobbies. I'm imagining a snake anxiously banging into its tank or tub in frustration until it gets the opportunity to come watch you play videogames or something.
I suppose 'playing turtle', 'hide and seek', etc., is a friendly way of saying the animal is fearing for its life and defensively avoiding predation by a much-larger, unfamiliar animal.
Forgive me if your post was meant to be humorous. I just find the mentality of it all very interesting, akin to people speaking baby-talk to a dog, or smaller animals automatically being considered cute. We humans are strange creatures.

You are my hero for taking your snake to Hollister... seriously.

Re: What is the funnest thing you do with your snake?
Yeah I think people over anthropomorphize animals wayyy too much.
I take mine out once a week or so, just to get him used to handeling as he is still really young, I don't want him to be overly shy or aggressive as an adult.
I mainly hold him to check on his physical appearance and make sure he still looks healthy.
I sometimes turn my heating blanket on to low and let him curl up and take a nap while I play on the lap top on the bed.
-
Re: What is the funnest thing you do with your snake?
My Bp loves to curl up into my hair and chill there for at least 30 mins until I try to untangle him. I guess he just has a thing for my nice toasty head.
-
Re: What is the funnest thing you do with your snake?
anthropomorphization, I think, comes naturally for a lot (if not all) people (I mean stuff like baby talking and calling your pet cute). I think it's "normal" and okay, as long as the individual realizes that animals are animals - they don't "love" you and basically function on an instinctual level only. Your snake does not "enjoy" its activities with you

Yes, I talk to my dog all the time, haha, and say excuse you after she burps or farts lmao and bless you if she sneezes xP But I think a lot of people really DO think their reptiles enjoy being out with them and seek out their attention.
Bearded dragons on the other hand...I have seen some that literally beg for you to take them out, and fly onto your arm when you reach in...but I think they just see you as being able to get out of their house, not you as the enjoyment factor.

Re: What is the funnest thing you do with your snake?
Perhaps I do humanize them a little bit much, but over the course of months of interaction and observation, my statements are true enough.
For example, while my large male pastel Koroku will sit patiently on my lap and watch me play computer games for 30-40 minutes without complaint, he does not like to be on my bed with me and will constantly try and get down to the floor and leave.
In contrast, my mojave female will not sit still on my lap no matter what, but if I put her on my bed, she'll crawl under my blanket, poke her head and neck out and just lie there and watch me for however long I am willing to sit there.
My largest het pied female, I am convinced likes to play statue. Whenever I take her out, she'll explore me for a few minutes, then she'll simply "freeze" in one position and just stay there. After 5 or 6 minutes, she'll move around again, and then she "freezes" again. It's ritual she always does.
Both my pied boy and my husbands abused normal boy are very shy and so mostly just stay balled up when we get them out. But if we are patient and very still, eventually they'll peek their heads out and look around. But, if you move, just like a turtle their heads disappear.
I know they are "only" animals, and as snakes they don't show affection and act mainly on instinct, but if my snakes eat every week, shed and poo and grow as they should, don't act stressed out by our time together, and stay healthy, why shouldn't I enjoy my computer junkies, my napper, my turtles and my supermodel ? Even if they are only "snakes" to anyone but me.

Re: What is the funnest thing you do with your snake?
Anybody who think snakes don't have different personalities obviously hasn't read up on their evolution. Of course animals have different physical or mental characteristics - that's the story of life. Do they like playing hide and seek? Do they like playing video games? No, they do not. Do they like coming out to explore? Do some like to be handled? Yes, for sure they do.
My snake comes out everyday except for the first 2 days after he eats. He likes to explore and is very nosey! Sometimes I think people make excuses up that snakes don't like coming out because they can only provide a 'once a week' quick handling.

Re: What is the funnest thing you do with your snake?
Mine like to sit on my lap as I watch TV or work on the laptop. Humanizing your animals is perfectly normal and who is to say what an animal likes or dislikes. I have yet to meet a person who could communicate with them. I don’t think my snake love's me they are a primal creature that are basically pure instinct. I think they view me as "THE GREAT BRINGER OF RODENTS". My dogs however being sentient self aware animals, I have no doubt that they love me.

Try it, seriously. But don't take em into Forever 21....Someone will rat you out and they'll kick you out XD
I love bringing my snake to the mall. I even got a shirt airbrushed with his picture there.

Re: What is the funnest thing you do with your snake?
To call someone on humanizing animals only to proceed with a statement that suggests that the animals automatically dislike something because they are just animals is almost the same as humanizing them.
No matter how primitive the animal, every single individual is different from the next, with different preferences and different reservations. Unless there is an obvious negative reaction to something, nobody can state that an animal dislikes something even though it tolerates it.
People can't read animals' minds, and so we are forced to simply repeat the activities that bring on a positive or neutral reaction from the animal because it doesn't have an obvious aversion to it, and we are left to assume that they enjoy it. Animals are animals, and they would let us know if we did anything that they disliked, so most things that we do regularly with animals is assumed to be liked by default.
