Looks like a fresh born Storeria dekayi. They are very, very tiny and cute, even as adults. :)

Every state has one, but here is a link to your herp guide. http://snrs.unl.edu/herpneb/

I looked there but couldn't find one exactly like him. But i found tons of pics of black racer hatchlings and he looks like most of them.

I'm also going with Storeria dekayi--the dark marking through the eye matches.

Dekay's, or brown snakes, feed mainly on slugs and worms, and are found across most of the US. They are very small, with adults only being around 9 to 13 inches long.

Another indicator that this is a brown snake and not a racer is that it's simply so tiny. A hatchling racer would be more the size of a hatchling corn snake. Can you imagine this guy scarfing down a pinky mouse? ^_^

I want to keep and breed Dekay's one day, just because no one else is doing it.

I found some pics of hatchling Storeria dekayi on google and he is a perfect match. Think he will eat the little super worms from the pet store or just regular earth worms?

You could try him with a mealworm, but my guess is that he would prefer a regular small soil worm. You might have to do some hunting around to find something small enough for the little guy, if you plan to keep him. Turn over rocks and get the tiniest worms you can find.
    They like garden slugs, too.

I would suggest culturing garden slugs now--find some and put a little group together, and get them breeding, so that you'll have something for him over the winter. Some of the stores stop carrying panfish worms in the winter.

The Walmart over on Blair High carries panfish worms right now. I'm not sure if they will be small enough or not, even if you break them up.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try and keep him. Depending on if he eats for me. If not I'll have to let him go. I live close to that wallmart. Heading there right now. I have tons of slugs in my garden right now. I'll round some up and start a group. Thanks for the help

Dekay's are one of my favorites, good find :) When I had one, he was bigger than yours, but I just caught things under rocks, slugs, worms, crickets, but I bet he would take worms no problem.
This is basically what I did when I had mine, I gave them real natural looking tanks with live plants.

I made him a 5 gallon natural set up with a couple inches of dirt from the yard. I dropped in some tiny meal worms for now but tomorrow im going slug hunting down by a swamp close to my house. All the flooding we have had should make for some nice slugging.
Didn't see any in my garden.

Oh, he is sooooo ferocious... I think you may need to hook-train him!!

Seriously though, that is one cute little snake! Someone on my corn snake forum found a Dekay's recently, but they released it after taking these adorable photos: http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=102337

Are you sure you are ok after being attacked by that monster? :P I almost fell out of my chair when you said the coin was a dime, I thought it was a half dollar or a quarter at least!
Good luck getting him/her to eat.

That's awesome looking. Whats even better is you actually got him to be still for some pictures.
