There is something wrong with his jaw he trys to eat but its like he cant open his mouth. He has a kink in his neck so im sure it has to do with some trama that happened to him. I hope that a** enjoys the nice healthy snake he got from me. Well i just had to vent.

    I'm sorry! That's terrible. :( I wonder what's wrong with the snake?
I'd contact the seller you got him from and have a long talk. >.<

This sounds like something to be posted on the BOI. Just make sure to have all your facts strait, proof of the transaction and whatnot. Hopefully you saved every email you sent.

Can you force feed him pinkies? I know it won't last forever, but you could keep him from starving... and maybe they will be small enough that you can get them past the kink in his neck.

I'm very sorry about your new python.

    That's a shame hon.

Perhaps a vet visit ? There might be something a qualified herp vet could do for it.

Some people will always take advantage of you. I am way to trusting myself, and it's gotten me in a lot of trouble, but I still keep doing it.

Best wishes for you and your baby.

There's gotta be some kind of law against that. Although I guess after lawyer fees and all that, it's not worth it anyway.

Who did you make the trade with? I'd really like to know. Maybe someone on this board knows the guy and can put some pressure on him to do the right thing.

    Good luck!

Can you post pics of the snake and show us in the photos the problems the snake has?

I would try to contact him back, this is something that can't just be let go of, I know I'd be pretty pissed to be honest.

Definitely post this up on the BOI so no one else thinks about buying from this guy.

In the meantime, try making a vet appointment as soon as possible, I'm sure the vet can give you some solution to the problems with the Ball python.

Unless he's a big breeder, posting on Faunas BOI will get you nothing but accusations towards you and people taking sides and nothing being resolved.

I dealt with the BOI for an adult female albino that came to me with an RI and pneumonia. All I got was a thread where I had to defend everything I did and say. I had to post everything I had including scanning the vet report. Nothing was accepted without proof. Even after the guy was proven to be selling using another name, (I think he was banned using his real name), I still got nothing.

In my opinion, the BOI is nothing more than where a bunch of old biddies go to argue.

Post the guy's name and location. There are many people here that may be able to help.

    Good Luck!

There are a few pics in my gallory or him and he only has one eye but i did know that. He told me it was just an injury from a feeding but now i think there was a much worse trama that went on with him. He was not a breeder i had a pinstripe that was not very nice so i traded him for a black pastel. Im not looking into breeding so the one eye thing was not a big deal i just wanted a cool looking snake that my kids could hold. His name is Matt he lives in ut im not sure if he is on here or not.

I just looked at your gallery. It honestly looks to me like some one stepped on that snakes neck. Obviously I'm just guessing but...

Are those snake housed together or were they just together for the picture?

How large is the snake? It does not look like his injuries should keep him from eating. When I first read your post I was assuming the "injuries" were actually birth defects, but that eye does not look like something it was born with to me. Good luck.

I do have to ask why you would trade a healthy pinstripe for a one eyed snake? I know you said you are not interested in breeding, but it just sounds like a bad trade to me.

Re: I got ripped off :(
In all honesty, I don't see anything too wrong with that snake that it shouldn't eat. Most kinks are birth defects (as I would say the eye is) and that snake looks to be a pretty good size, so you know he was eating at some point.

Snakes are pretty tough, and this one's had it rough but I think he'll be all right. Check your husbandry first. Temps are right? Are you housing it with another snake? That might explain the killing and leaving the food... if he's being housed with another snake right now and wasn't before, he may be feeling the stress.

I have had three snakes with kinks, one of them quite severe, and all of them ate---and have continued eating---regularly.

    Melissa,

I'm sorry you got a bum deal. I got ripped off by a guy in West Haven, right by you. That one hurt, but I found a better deal and recovered.

I agree with the idea that you should check the husbandry out. He has obviously eaten before.

Good luck with him. Sorry you dealt with a Utard. There are a lot of them out there.

He was housed with other snakes when i got him. It looks like he tries to eat it but his mouth wont open. Should i not have them togther? I have seen some info on they are fine and some say not to.

I originally housed my rescues together because they had always been together and I was worried if I separated them I would have problems. My female used to do the same exact thing, killing it and rubbing her nose all over the prey but leaving it because she was insecure about the other snake. I got them to eat but I would have to take one snake out to feed the other, so I eventually gave up and moved them both to tubs. So that would be my advice. Even though she was previously housed with another snake he might just be insecure because it's a new environment and because he doesn't really "know" the new housemate. Buy a tub, get him eating regularly and then decide if you want to introduce them again (I don't recommend this).

I agree with the above post... get him into his own cage, something a little smaller, maybe a little darker. When you feed him, try putting a blanket or towel over the enclosure.

He probably isn't opening his mouth because he doesn't want to. I'd say you have a shy little guy on your hands there.

How long are you leaving the mouse in the cage after he kills it? Next time I would try watching to make sure he wraps it up and then turn off the lights and leave the room for a few hours. I bet he will eat it eventually. You would have to get the other snakes out of the cage to do this, but they should not be in there with them in the first place anyway.

Re: I got ripped off :(
Ball pythons really do not need cage mates.

Eventually, it usually causes some sort of problem.

Separate them, then see how he does. That kink doesn't look like it's from trauma, but it could be... It's probably from a birth defect.

Re: I got ripped off :(
i agree with the general consensus. give him a seperate and secure enclosure (he should be in QUARANTINE).. leave him alone for a week and try to feed him.

sorry about the bum deal, but trading a healthy pinstripe for a one eyed black pastel is a ripoff but you agreed to it... :(

read the care sheet on this forum. also, i would follow the advice given on the forum.. keeping snakes housed together works well for some, but not for others. there are more negatives in housing 2 snakes together that outweigh the convenience of having to buy a separate enclosure. follow the advice that people are giving, and give him his own place..

Re: I got ripped off :(
Just my two cents...get a moderate sized tub, put him in, and try feeding him in there. Like other have said, separate the snakes and when the little one-eyed one feeds, put a towel or something over the enclosure. Snakes that are shy like a little privacy. Remember that for a snake, eating and shedding are times when they are EXTREMELY vulnerable in the wild, so they instinctively get a little edgy if they feel threatened at those times.

Unfortunately unless there was a guarantee of some sort in writing you are out of luck in so far as having recourse.

    "Let the buyer beware."

I agree with the recent posts about housing and all. Give it a try.

This really sucks for you Mellisa and BG isn't defending the guy who sold it to you...BUT....you did know it had one eye when you bought it. BG isn't sure what the guy told you, but you could assume that it may have some problems.

BG isn't sure why you would do this trade, but you did. This animal looks like it's gonna need a leeetle extra care to keep him alive. If you go to the BOI like people suggest, you'll probably leave with a bigger headache than you already have(BG agrees with Smitty here)...especially with this deal considering you knew it had problems to begin with and it has now been a month.(why did you wait so long?)

You can try and assist feed him for a while and hopefully he'll figure out how to eat on his own.:gj:

Oh yeah. If you are trying to feed them together you are asking for trouble....and a possible injury which will surely be brought up on the BOI. BG doesn't care how it was housed before. It's not a good idea.

First off the one eye thing is not a big deal to me if he would eat. Thanks every one i will try getting him into his own tank and feeding him in the dark. I did have him in his own tank when i was feeding him. I left him with the mouse for about 30 min.

My one snake will only eat in his home tub...if I move him, he balks. He eats great in his hide inside his tub though.

If I remember correctly the pinstripe was a tad nippy when handled and, since they have no plans to breed, they preferred to have a snake that could be handled more easily with the children.

Although with my memory that could have been someone else.
