Accuruite is far from accurate

Theres my readings from 2 different models and the center one is a higher priced one i got at a True Value hardware store. The Acurite wired one is accurate with temps but not humidity and the Acurite wireless one is accurate with humidity and not temps. I guess you get what you pay for. Anyone else compared different thermometers side by side?
Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
I have 3 different brands and they all have different readings slightly!
Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
What annoys me is the wired one is 8-10% off with humidity. If the humidity read close to the other 2, it would be a perfect thermometer. I might look for a more expensive one that is wired and see how that is. Everyone might be thinking im crazy but if im breeding and have multiple racks, then id like to find a thermometer and stick with that brand and model knowing everything is accurate with each other without having to try to remember that this perticular thermometer reads 8% lower humidity than it should.
Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
I bought two others because I am going to breed this year and wanted an accurate one for my incubator so I completely understand!
Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
I use a digital therm/humidity meter I bought from a cigar shop,it's pretty accurate
Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
I have two Accurites and one different brand. All three are about the same.....usually 1-2% off on the humidity and 1-2 degrees off on temp. I just checked my snake room (I rotate the thermometers in and out of different tubs) and all three temps were at 82, the bottom rack "outdoor" probe was at 81, and the other brand was at 55% humidity, and the Accurites were at 57% and 59% humidity.
I bought 10 of those aquarium thermometers (all the same exact brand you see at Petco....sometimes in yellow but usually small with a probe). I put all ten of them in one tub and 3 of them were in the 83's, three of them were right at 81, and the rest were 78-81. There was a good 4 degree, give or take difference. My Accurites are more for a guide I guess. As long as the temps are 80-83ish on the cool side and humidity is between 50-65%.
Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
I have two and they're both off 1-3 degrees and 1-2% humidity...
Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
I got so frustrated with all the different readings, I bought this. I love it.

One of these days I swear I'm gonna buy a temp gun...:gj:
Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
For how much you spent on the three of those, you could have gotten a nice temp gun or a cheap thermostat.

To add fire to that statement, temp guns don't seem to be any more accurate, just easier to use.
My neighbor and I have identical cen-tech temp guns, we have tested them many times of the last 6 months and his reads consistently 1.1 degrees hotter than mine :rolleye2:
How does anyone know their temp reading devise is accurate?
Is mine accurate, or is his?
Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
In my RBI rack I use a Herpstat and have an Accurite and a RadShack wireless in one tub. (Also have a temp gun for spot checks.) Bought the RadShack wireless ($20) so I can monitor warm temps in the tub remotely on a small screen in my office. Have used this combo for more than two years, and the RadShak and Accurite are usually within a degree of each other. Won't claim measurements are perfect but certainly keeping everyone healthy.

Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
I put all my Accurites and one Springfield together.......all were just about the same temp wise. One Accurite and Springfield were identical for humidity and one Accurite was a 4% off on humidity. I had my fan going too. I also ordered a temp gun last week so hopefully I have my temps and humidity devices covered now.

Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
You must of gotten junk ones. Return and get different ones. ALL mine read the same temps as my temp gun and thermostats.

Heres warm side temp. Accurate probe is taped ON the flexwatt and temp gun reading is INSIDE the tub.

Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
My acu-rite with wired probe is accurate with temps but the humidity is whats off on it. Right about 10% too low. I thought this maybe was a fluke so i bought a second one since there only $12 and that reads identical in temps and humidity as the other acu-rite with wired probe. The model must not have a good hygrometer reading. Its fine though. Seeing i have 2 other thermometers that show the right humidity, im not worried about what the Acu-rite is showing. But i have a good guideline for them reading 10% lower than the actual room humidity.

I never worry about humidity levels. All mine are -+ 1-5% which will not harm anything. Mist when in shed and your fine.
Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
Im sorta OCD about temps and humidity. I atleast have to have the room at 80* and 50+% humidity. This way itll never be too low of humidity in the tubs with the water bowls and paper towls. Im getting complete sheds without having to mist which is less overall work i have to do.

My room humidity with Central air on is 34-44%. Inside the tubs range from 48-61%. They all shed fine no problems.
Should be more OCD about Temps rather humidity IMO. I worry about temps first humidity last.
Re: Accuruite is far from accurate
Dont worry about that. I worry about both. Ive got 4 thermometers in the room in all different areas between being on the heat tape, in the tub, near the rack, and in the center of the room.
