Yes, simply because they are not compatible.

Re: axanthics
if its the same basic thing why would they not be compatible? the end result is a gray and back skin pigment? you would think that it would be all same?

Re: axanthics
The genes for each line of Axanthic are not on the same loci. That is the simple answer.

Re: axanthics
Just consider each line to be a different morph than the others. ;) Also from photos I tend to see differences in the differing lines...VPI being the most grayscale of them. The others look a little...muddy.

Re: axanthics
Like Tim said.. It is to different recessive gene's that cause the same "look" in an animal..

there are different lines of pastels but they're all the same - they sometimes just have minor differences in terms of color and pattern
lineage is just about who produced that particular mutation and how it works with others

Yep but all of the Pastel traits must be on the same locus to work together, the Axanthics are not ;)

D&M and Snake Keeper line are the only two lines that have proven compatible as far as I know.

Just like albino's and lavender albinos. Same "basic" coloration (phenotype) with different allels at work (genotype).

To the best of my knowledge the NERD and VPI line are compatible as well.

Re: axanthics
To my knowledge these two actually haven't been proven for sure incompatible. Unless of course I'm out of the loop again :)
The only breeding I know of that produced eggs was het to het done by SK years ago that only had 5 eggs and no axanthics.....so they might have just missed?
I know that talking to Graziani and Micheal Cole (python hunters) at Tinley 2 years ago they thought VPI and SK would end up being compatible.
Hope that helps :) If I had a VPI girl I'd give it a try :D
