    Should I Trade?
well i have a male 367 gram pied and i was wondering if it would be good to trade for a 800 gram female mojave. only reason i had the pied was to breed him to my cousins female het pied but thanks to a freak accident she has passed away like 3 days ago. so i have to use for him this breeding season the female mojave may go late in the season but i wont force her and is she does not go at least i know that she will be more than ready for the next one so i was wondering if its a good idea thanks

i get to pick out of her and a female enchi same weight thanks

It all depends on what you're looking to do in the long run.....IMO, you can never go wrong with a male pied or a big mojo girl 50/50 ;)

From a financial standpoint, the pied is worth more than the mojo ( she's not even breeding weight) so I would'nt go for the trade.

I would stick with the recessive boy especially if ive grown him from a hundred grams and he is a good eater. If you feel like hes a typical tough pied. I would try to get the 800gm mojo and another neonate sized codom/dom

Personally I'd go with the female enchi. Enchi's make great combos, I don't think people give them enough attention.

I personally wouldent do it, pieds will make you more money in the long run. Mojos are very good looking snakes but nothing will beat a pied.

So if you are patient and breed that pied and get atleast one pied from the clutch, you can buy like 2-3 mojos.

    Good luck making your choice!

I never trade recessives for codoms. I would just buy a couple 09 het pied females and breed them in the 2011 season. You could also pick up a few breeder normal females and make some hets this season. Het pied females are pretty much the same price as Mojaves and that way you could at least produce a few snakes this year.

I'm pretty new to ball pythons, and while I'm tempted to say do what makes you happy... some of the other members have brought up very valid points.

One of the breeders I've been looking at charges $1250 for a pied male... whereas he charges $400 for an Enchi female, and I've been seeing Mojave females for $250-350.

If you really want to trade him, I'd try to find a comparable animal or a group of pythons that come close to what you can get for your male. I don't know if the site I'm looking at is over priced or average, but if it's average I'd want something neat like a bumble bee and an enchi in trade.

hey appygirl84 i dont know if you saw but i want to trade for a 800 gram or more female and they cost way more than when they are small.
if i do get her i plan to breed her to a fire or even a firefly if i can get one
but i still have 2 weeks to decide so keep your replies coming thanks

as for the cost if pied i know a good friend who breeds them for the fun of it and not the money and i can get them for about 400 bucks

At 800 grams the mojo female as a guess won't go this coming season anyways, I'd pick up a couple normal females and make some hets, sell the hets as 1.1 pairs and buy a breedable female morph the next year.

The 800 gram girls won't go this season, either. Keep the pied male. You'll definitely be glad you did, in the long run.

I'm going through the same thing as you, just opposite. I have 3 breeder female pastels (one 950g, one 1400g and the other 1650g). All three should be good to go by December as they are all 07 or 08's. Albino's are my favorite and after going to the reptile show this weekend, I started thinking of selling one of my pastel girls and buying an Albino with the money.......I know I will have to wait a good year or two (depending on if I bought an 09 or 10) so why not start raising my Albino girl now? My heart wants the Albino but I know if I breed my pastels to my bee, I will probably get some good babies to sell and/or trade for that Albino and still keep my pastel breeders. Decisions, decisions.

IF fed properly and feeds great has a great chance at going.

I have 2 09s over 1100grams only eating 45 gram rats weekly. So as long as the mojo girl eats well and grows you will have her up to size by December easily.

    Re: Should I Trade?
It's all really your choice, but I personally wouldn't do it. Two main reasons are that the female probably won't be ready this season, and then your guy holds more of a financial value.

i would trade for the mojo girl but thats because mojo is my favorite morph. the enchi female wont be bad because the enchi combos are awesome. you just have to pick what direction you want to go in the future.

    Re: Should I Trade?
I really don't see an 800 gram animal making it to 1500 grams by December. That would be one heck of a long shot.
Add in the tendency of females at that size to go off feed for the winter, and I don't think there is much of a chance there.

Too many factors against this idea--the value isn't equal, and unless you have a female that eats like a mammal, you're not too likely to win in the end.
How old is she? That will tell you how fast she's growing, and you can calculate how big she's likely to be in December.
