    Lost my first pet today..
:( Kif the Panther Chameleon passed away this evening at the animal ER. He wasn't looking so good these last few days and this afternoon things took a turn for the worse.

I have never lost an animal yet so I am taking this pretty hard :( It is never easy to loose an animal. I am getting a necropsy done in the morning. To my knowledge (and to everyone else I consulted) my husbandry was spot on. I am just hoping this wasn't my fault :(

I don't know if I want to get another chameleon now. I love the species so much but it is so sad seeing his empty cage...it breaks my heart.

Also, if anyone was wondering where I went, I moved to a new apartment and I don't have very good internet yet. Plus I just finished unpacking my computer.

Sorry to hear about your loss :(

I'm sure it wasn't you fault, you should try to not to blame yourself about it. But do you think the move could have had an effect on the little guy? Aren't they pretty sensitive to stress and things like that?

First off, my condolences - it's never easy to endure a loss.

IIRC, chameleons don't have a super long lifespan compared to some other reptiles - how old was he? Perhaps it was just his time? (Someone correct me if I've been misinformed.)

Sorry about your loss. I know if is sooo hard to lose a pet - my 9 year old dog was just diagnosed with cancer - she is undergoing surgery this week - I pray to get maybe a couple more years with her.

    Godspeed to Kif.

i had a jacksons cham a few years ago my parents got me as a pet when i was 12...unfortunately at the time we were all unaware of there intense husbandry requirements..it died probably 2 months after getting it..i also fed it some wild moths..which may have helped...i cried..:( im thinkin about venturing into the cham world again since im much more knowledgable now...

Thank you everyone :( He was only 4 months old so I don't think it was "his time". Although I have heard that the babies have a high mortality rate :( so it could have been completely out of my control.

I don't know if or when I will venture back into chams. I am a bit scared to get a baby now :(

    sorry for you loss :tears:

most likely it wasnt your fault at all.... from what I understand is that well established ones are the way to go, but I dont think this should deter you from owning more chams in the future

Wow, only 4 months sounds like maybe you just had some ugly luck - I think that sort of thing happens to everybody at least some of the time, and all you can really do is take the time to grieve and move on when you're ready. Here's hoping you've used up your quota of bad luck, and that things go better for you and your animals in the future.
