    My bee....question?
Has anyone else noticed a drastic color change in their bee as they age? Im not talking about the normal browning out they go through. My bee is about 8 months old and he looks like a totally different snake. The new pic doesnt do it justice. His white on his sides is the cleanest white with only the black from his stripes. No random scales but his yellow has taken on a gray appearance and the white is coming thru on top also slightly. Almost looks kind of axanthic. But as a baby he just looked like a pretty nice bee.

Pics dont show the "gray" appearance real good. Anyone else seen this or does he have something a little wierd going on..

first pic is a baby pic. Second is now

Looking at the two pics I can see more of a difference than I thought. All the yellow that was on his belly is completely gone and is now pure white. Almost leucistic looking.

Second pic looks like a gray scale image...you should put something else in the pic with the snake for color comparison...

no doubt, someone will come up with an answer that's as clear as 'black and white'...

The second image is enhanced. I can see the greying of the yellow/brown on his top. Trust me, I work with enough editing software to tell that this is a bad second pic.

Looks to me like it shed out the color layers in it's scales. It happens sometimes, here's a couple of examples I found:

I don't think the picture is edited, you can see the pink under it's heat pit scales. I've seen this several times. Sometimes the color change seems to stick (though it will continue to change), and other times they return to normal after a few sheds. Anywho, really nice looking snake--I'm jealous!

    Cheers,

    Re: My bee....question?
I can see how one easily could have Photoshopped that, but in this case, I don't really see why one would ...

Did the change happen all in one shed? I have now seen a few BPs do this, but the odd part is that the only morph I've ever heard of it happening to are spiders. Has anyone ever had it happen to any other morph?

To give another example, this girl was a normal (well, "burgundy," if you count that as anything other than normal) when I got her ... Two weeks later she shed out and now she looks like this (the brown on her back is not poo or shed, but remnant of her pigment within her scales):

That is NOT Photoshopped in any way; all I did was crop the picture. (Didn't even do "Auto Levels" or nothin' ;) )

... Sadly I think it goes back to normal after another couple sheds. (I say sadly 'cos they look very cool while they're like that ...)

On the plus side, that is one excellent-looking bee, even before he "turned gray!"

Maybe he saw a ghost :D

My spider did this a couple weeks after I got him(though not as drastically), and then shed out into a bright, banana yellow. He's stayed high yellow for almost a year (he's only gotten brighter :w00t:), so I'm not complaining, but I thought the breeder sent me the wrong snake at first. It's cool to watch them phase like that, though I wish some of those phases were permanent.

That pic is taken with the exact same piece of poster board in the background and the same black towel and the same camera. There is no editing or photoshop. I h ave no reason to do that I just was simply wondering if anyone had this happen. It happened over a few sheds and has been like that for about 3 months but the white seems to get brighter. I think it looks really neat like this but wouldnt complain if it turned back to "normal" Thanks for the input..

Here is another quick pic with me holding him. I was just trying to capture the color. Hope this helps for those of you that "work with enough photo software" to know I photoshopped it. Like I said im not trying to pass this snake off as some rare morph just that I never seen this before

Just gorgeous wow. There's no way you photoshopped that. If I was you id kind of want the snake to stay like that :P

    Re: My bee....question?
Wasn't there another thread about this? I remember the guy was from Asia (can't remember which country - Thailand?), and had a spider who turned seriously BLACK & WHITE in one shed. The snake went back to its original color eventually, but looked super cool in the meantime. :) I'll see if I can dig up that thread...

P.S. I thought the first post was photo-shopped too, LOL. :D

    Here's that old thread: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...r+pigmentation

Unfortunately the pictures aren't showing anymore, but it should make for a good read anyway... interesting! Edit: You can see one photo on page 3, and a few post-change photos later in the thread.

The first picture of the grey and white looks every greyscaled like the picture was p-shopped. However, the second picture looks much more clear.

    Re: My bee....question?
I will admit I do need to work on my photo taking skills lol but he didn't wanna cooperate with me lol. I will try to get a pic of him in his tote undisturbed. I will admit that after all the photoshop comments I looked at the first shot and it did look greyish but in person it is a pretty dramatic change. He just shed a few days ago and actually it seems gets grayerand whiter lol it actually looks like the white is bleeding thru on top a bit too. Maybe he will be all white one day! Lol....I hope he stays like this tho because I think it looks really cool. Ill post another body shot today.
