The worst odds ever?
Can someone make me feel a little less dissapointed and tell me its happened to them before?? I bred a male albino to a female het and out of 7 perfect eggs, I got one albino... lol. Oh well, hopefully get better odds on my other clutches!

Re: The worst odds ever?
That what come with breeding recessive gene carriers
It hasn't happend to me personally, but I hear odd like these with recessives a lot so don't sweat. Just look at it this way, it could have been worse. Just be glad you got an albino! Pics?

Re: The worst odds ever?
was the het 100%.
It can happen to where you get nothing but more hets or you can get even split or all albinos. Joys of genetics.

Re: The worst odds ever?
Does it make you feel better if i told you i bred a pewter to normal, got 8 good eggs. Hatched out 6 normals and 2 pastel. One pastel died from neck deformity and the other pastel is a male. Yay me. hope next season's odds make up for this year

Of course it was 100% het...

Re: The worst odds ever?
my female 100% het pied female was bred to my pied male and i got ZERO pieds! hopefully that makes you feel better. it sucks for me. but on the upside i got some awesome het pieds. like this girl im holding back:)

p.s. there was only 4 eggs and i got 3 females and 1 male. i'll probably keep all three females for future breeding projects:D

Re: The worst odds ever?
My friend started this season out nice...
Butter and Stingerbee x Normal
Result?
1.0 Spider, 1.0 Enchi and a whooping 5.0 normals.

That is pretty bad for 50/50 odds! But still, grats on the albino :gj: Any pics?

Re: The worst odds ever?
Last year was my first year breeding. I produced one clutch consisting of four eggs from a spider x normal pairing. The end results? All four were normals...a complete strike out.

7 Hatchlings trump 7 slugs.

Re: The worst odds ever?
My first year breeding - two pastel clutches with a total of 10 eggs between the two. 1.1 pastels, 4.4 normals.
This year, a GORGEOUS clutch of 7 eggs - beautiful, plump, pearly white eggs.....not a vein in a single egg - a beautiful infertile clutch.
Feeling better now? ;)

Re: The worst odds ever?
NO mine was worse. I got all hets and to make it worse. They were all MALES.
-
Re: The worst odds ever?
Pair of 100% het albinos, two years of breeding, a total of 12 eggs, and zero albino's. Yep, I feel your pain. Hopefully the pendulum will swing back the other direction for you next year and you'll have 7 albinos staring at ya.

Re: The worst odds ever?
My buddy bred a spider het. albino to a het albino. He produced both snakes so there was no way they were not hets. His results: 0 spiders, 0 albinos, 0 albino spiders, and 6 normals poss. het albino. Can't get much worse than that.

We jus had 10 slug clutch.

Re: The worst odds ever?
First clutch Lesser pastel x Normal = 4good eggs one slug.Out of the four that hatched all four were normal! Yup I'd say it could be worse...
-
Re: The worst odds ever?
Ok I have the worst yet.
I bred 0 snakes to 0 snakes last year. All I got was 0 eggs. Not even a slug..... Dang.
Lol seriously though it can always be worse. Grats on a healthy clutch though!!!

Re: The worst odds ever?
A few years ago I bred a male Mojave to a big normal female. I got nine eggs, incubated them, and sure enough the first one to pipped was a beautiful mojave. Being all excited to see how many more were in the clutch I quickly cut the others only to discover I had 8 normals in the remaining eggs....lol
That is just the way it goes some times, especially when you are talking about snakes like Ball Pythons which lay smaller clutches. If you breed enough it all evens out. :)

Re: The worst odds ever?
My worst odds were on my bumble bee project. It took 2 years and 3 different clutches to get 1 bee.
We had 18 eggs total. 17 made it full term and hatched, 9 normals, 3 spiders, 4 pastels and 1 bumble bee from spider to pastel breedings.

Re: The worst odds ever?
Random and OLD thread, but I'm curious. Did your odds ever improve?

BURN!
OP, I bred an Albino x Spider het. Albino. Got 1.0 Albino, 1.2 Spider Albinos, 1.1 Normals het. Albino.
Joe's friend had bad bad odds, I had good GOOD odds. It's all random!

Our second year breeding we had 3 girls slug out. That was horrible disappointing, 20 slugs total. Also, one of the main things we wanted to produce was a Bee and we have yet to hatch one! :rolleye2:
-
Last year, I bred a Pied to a Spider - looking for Spider het pieds. Got nine perfect eggs and all hatched. Number of Spider het pieds = 0. None, nada, zip. All het pieds. Sold them all off and just bought a Spied.
-
That's how you get things done I guess. Still not as fun as making your own, though!

Re: The worst odds ever?
Last year I bred my Pin to my big normal girl (picked her up as a 50% het pied back in 08) and got 7 eggs. Two eggs went bad, two of the hatchlings died in the egg (one normal, one nice looking pin) and of the remaining 3, one male pin and two male normals. At least you can say your normals are all 100% het albino lol.

He produced c∕̴ visual so technically whether he knew or not, it was 100% het for Albino.
-
Het clown to het clown. They didn't produce a live clown until their 4th or 5th clutch (I can't remember which). I knew they were hets because they produced a full term dead baby in their 2nd clutch which was a clown, but then it was several more years before I got a live one.
-
Re: The worst odds ever?
I bred a visual male clown to a female mojave 3 seasons ago. mojave het clowns were 3k and didn't get any mojaves out of 6 eggs. 50/50 chance to get a mojave per egg. everything was 100% het clown.

Did you Made omelet ???
But Seriously... and On Topic i took like 5 years For Brian from BHB to Prove Sunset ball as genetic recessive... and He paid 75k for imported Snake...
I believe he said in one of very early episodes of SnakeBytes.tv that he took him 4 years year to year breeding of 100% het for albino to finally produce albino from that pairing... So Yea... Odds sucks sometimes especially if You thinking about making some extra cash or at least get your invested money back.. but hey... next year that could be 6 albinos and 1 het .. You never Know:gj:

Re: The worst odds ever?
guys guys guys. There are absolutely worse odds than that. Three females, three clutches, about 17 eggs total...17/17 were slugs.

Ouch.

Serious ouch, sorry to hear!
-
17 slugs. Man that is crushing. I'm going to be a nervous wreck when I eventually breed. And I'm only going to have one female to start with so that's going to be a blow if they turn out all slugs.

Not even going to try to top that, but...
I can't decide what my worst was. First year breeding, mojave, pastel, and yellow belly males paired to normals and a pastel, I ended up with 22 eggs, 2 mojos, 1 pastel, 19 normals.
Last year, I paired a smoking pastel hypo male to a nice, clean normal female...out of 10 eggs, ended up with 1 pastel het hypo male.

:/ Speaking of depressing stories.. I got a really gorgeous, light and differen spider from a normal x spider breeding some years back. I really wanted to breed him and see if his differences meant anything.. he was the second-last snake that I kept after selling everyone else off before/during our crosscountry move that ultimately failed. I kept him and Ginger, my big normal. Both died after coming back from CA; the spider male was always really fragile and was just a strange keeper with a weak appetite and appearance. This was him, next to one of his siblings (that clutch had good odds though; pretty sure that it was 4 spiders and2 normals; gotta check the record. Ginger had to have died of old age; she was in perfect health. I didn't know about the fact that you cannot get a good necropsy after freezing, and she is still in my freezer. When I feel ready, I will conduct one to see for any visual problems inside. But this was the spider that I lost.

I still get depresses when I think of the little guy.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...lightspiii.jpg
and this was Ginger. http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...9/ginger98.jpg
My odds were, out of upwards of 20 snakes, the two that I chose to keep longterm ultimately died on me. :( Rebuilding now. Makes you appreciate what you have, I suppose. I suspect that my intuition on keeping these two was due to maybe knowing that they did not have much time left, perhaps? The little male was not a snake who ever exhibited the strength and hardiness I would look for in an animal to sell, regardless of his pattern, though. And Ginger was more of a handleable pet than my other breeders

Re: The worst odds ever?
lol if it made 1 albino its 100 percent
-
At least your hold back is really cool! Those odds do suck :( Even if the het wasn't 100% it is now.
Edit: UGH...old thread risen from the dead
