Re: name your snakes?
I do! :3 I name all of my fish, too. I only do it because I don't feel like they're mine until I name them. That, and it's fun trying to come up with something creative playing the 'name game' :)

Re: name your snakes?
Most of mine have names but it's mostly because I have a 5 year old.
-
Re: name your snakes?
3 of my five have names, I'm just corny like that. I have a mojo I've yet to name and a big normal female which I did name but decided I didn't like the name, lol.

Re: name your snakes?
Male Pied
Female Pied
etc...
If this is what you mean, then yes I do. :rolleye2:
No, I do not name my snakes. I would only name a pet if I expected it to respond to my commands.

Re: name your snakes?
Yes - I shamelessly name most of my snakes. Some don't have names, but most do. It's easier for me to identify a snake by a name, rather than by a number.

Re: name your snakes?
Yes, I name all my Pets
Caboose
bella
Bones
DB
Rasputant
Elisa
Geckos are the hardest cuz you have to pick gender neutral names

Re: name your snakes?
As a few others have mentioned, with 3 kids, it is about imposible not to name them :rolleye2:

Re: name your snakes?
All of my "keepers" are named, I havent named any of my hatchlings, no reason to name them if I am gonna sell them. 2 Reasons they are named First, so that we can refer to a specific snake without having to say something like yellow belly 4 or normal 2 etc. Secondly for us, the snakes are pets and all of are pets are family and deserve a name IMO. I got a little one in the house too but the snakes were being named before he came along.

Re: name your snakes?
Yes. Having snakes is about regressing and having the childhood I couldn't have because my Mom was afraid of reptiles. So absolutely everybody has to have a name.
-
Re: name your snakes?
See signature. I always have a name for my animals. Kinda makes them a bit more than "just another pet".

Re: name your snakes?
Yep, my snakes name is Leon. =)

I name my snakes also. At first the names where just names but as our collection grew I began to catagorize the snakes with their names. For example all of our pastels names start with D like Daphne, Daisy, Delta, Dahli, Donna and Debbie. All of our male spiders names start with W like Wilbur and Walter. Our het Albinos and albinos start with A and so on.
So while we do not use alphanumeric codes to catagorize our snakes we use names for the same purpose. Plus it just feels more personal to me than using numbers to identify them.

-
Re: name your snakes?
I tried to name mine at first, but ended up just calling them "female ATB" or "that carpet I got at the show" etc lol
-
Re: name your snakes?

Re: name your snakes?
If I have an animal, it gets named. Part for accurate reference when telling people about them/feeding/playing and part just because if I kept an animal, reptilian or mammalian or whatever, I'd feel weird if I didn't. Just how I was brought up I suppose.

Re: name your snakes?
I call mine Kittie. Mostly just to confuse people when they ask what her name is.
There's really no point though. Imposing human characteristics or names on an animal is pretty silly, particularly if the animal has no way of communicating or responding to a name.
I suppose that wouldn't stop most people, though. It's a rather interesting demonstration of the human ego. We personify everything, whether animal or deity.

Re: name your snakes?
My normal female is named Solara.
After Mila Kunis' character in the movie The Book of Eli :D
Off topic but my car is named Mikaela. After Megan Fox's character in Transformers.
See where I'm going? lol

Re: name your snakes?
I like to try to put a name to all of my animals. But I find it harder and harder to think of them let alone remember them all as my collection seems to grow and grow... :rolleye2:

I agree. I named my snake Bones. My cars even have names. No definitive reason that I did it. I guess the best way I can say is that it is just my way of making things mine.

Re: name your snakes?
wow, i would not have thought that this many people name there snakes, if i had one or two ide be more likely to name them, or if i was younger i most likely would. but i have a hard enought time remembing my own name, but it is nice to know that people think of there snakes as pets,

Re: name your snakes?
I just can't name something that doesn't have a personality, it's like naming rocks. I did a pole on this a couple years ago, and I think I was one of three people that didn't name their snakes
Boring
Lays There All Day
Hidey Hole
Sleeps With Eyes Open
Grumpy
Bump on a Log
Those are the only names I can think of, so I just don't bother
I do name all my breeder rats though :P They are cute and cuddly and they LIKE to see me and be pet.

Geckos definitely have a personality. I know this was originally just a thread about snakes (I think they have personality too, but it's more obviously evident with geckos), but I couldn't let that one pass. Our leopard gecko pretends to be grumpy, but she's really a big softie. Our crestie has, um, "personality" as well. She's kind of a hyperactive court jester, and also likes to watch football (which my GF watches, but I do not; clearly it's her fault the gecko likes it).
They both have names - the leo is Tigger, and the crestie is Poohbear (her head is definitely stuffed with fluff, plus she's just about the right color). When we eventually find a leachianus a home with us, it's almost certainly going to be named Fezzik, because we both love that movie, and well, it's not the leachie's fault being the biggest and the strongest. :) I'd also like to get a rainbow boa or carpet python at some point, and while I haven't got that name figured out in advance like the leachie, I'm sure it'll come to me at some point - usually it's based on traits the animal displays for me.
I just can't see not naming an animal, even if it doesn't respond to commands...
