    Het Albinos aggressive?
Are Het Albinos usually more aggressive? When i got my female , she was always hissing and trying to tag me but now that she is older, she only hisses. I just got a male a month ago and he also hisses alot. I handle at least once a week! You expect it when you first get a baby but not now. Anybody else experience this?

    Re: Het Albinos aggressive?
My original het albino male was aggressive. Half of his daughters where regular hissers. One of the two offspring of one of those hisser daughters was extremely aggressive. I've culled the aggressive ones from that line out of my collection (but I still have one aggressive daughter of an unrelated non albino gene aggressive female).

So, in my limited experience it sure looks like aggression can be genetic (some sort of dominant) but isn't necessarily attached to the albino gene (it was actually the two non aggressive daughters of my original albino het male that proved het albino and the two aggressive ones didn't). I think it's just that some breeders might have selected aggressive balls to found their morph projects due to the belief that aggressive animals are better feeders (arguable). It might have been that they where trying to make ball pythons more like more aggressive and better feeding species they where already working with when the first morphs came on the scene and ball pythons where first bred in numbers in the 90's.

The simple answer is every snake has it own personality and is raised different, therfore they will act different. my albino is as passive as can be.

I think you're on to something. Yes, each snake has it's own personallity, but most of my albinos, hets and possible hets that hatch from them are pretty high strung and hiss and strike a lot especially as babies. I also believe that temperament and personallity can be inheritied traits. My line originally came from the Snake keepers.

My female het is almost two years old and still hisses every once in a while but doesn't try to tag me anymore. My two month old male hisses everytime I peek at him. I am trying to handle him more so it stops. I thought it was just her but then I got the male and he is the same! They are different lines from different breeders! I just never had such an aggressive snake before!

the two 100 het albinos males I owned were big into hissing, never struck at me but would puff up and hiss all the time.

Let me introduce you to me het pied female lol. Actually there are snakes that can be MUCH more aggressive then a BP. With the BPs tho it just varies from BP to BP ya know. I dont know of any BP morph that is know for bieng more agressiv then any other. It comes to the temperament of the snake and if the aggressiveness has been tamed out

I meant ball pythons! They are usually tame! I know other snakes are naturally aggressive!

My het albino (06 male) is my one of my tamest in my collection. He's from Ian G. if that helps any, perhaps this tempermental thing could just be from certain lines..

    Re: Het Albinos aggressive?
Years ago a friend had some sort of big Asian rat snake that was a terror. On cleaning day he would open the cage and the thing would fly out and chase him.

But I do think there was a fair amount of intentional breeding of aggressive genetics into morph ball python lines early on. I remember when the only ball pythons you saw where imported adults and they where considered very difficult to get feeding. Ball pythons had a terrible reputation as a difficult and not worth messing with species. Then along came the first few morphs and suddenly there was some interest in breeding them but everyone was looking for a way to make them eat like a burm. The idea that aggressive balls ate better was pretty common.

At any rate, I'm sure there are aggressive genetics separate from morph genes so if you want you should be able to find morphs with more typical ball python temperaments. It might be possible to change a ball's personality one way or the other but my experience has been that it's more nature than nurture as I've seen aggression passed down as many as three generations.
