    How much do you spend?
I was wondering how much do you spend on Bps (food, bps, utilities, supplies, etc.) on an average year?

I just got mine not too long ago, and altogether without the cost of my snake I've spent probably 500 or so.

Well, unlike most people, I use tanks, but I will soon be switching to repti-racks vision cages. Just for the set up alone, I spend a good $100 or more, and that does not include the tanks or thermostats because I get most of them off of craigslist or faunaclassifieds. But, any how, between the substrate, fake logs/ trees, water bowls, under the tank heat mats, and hides it is about $100 or so on each set up because I love natural looking enclosures.

As for feeding costs, I pay $2.00 for any size rat and $1.00 for pink and fuzzy rats a week. So, since there are 52 weeks in a year, I am looking at $104.00 for my adult ball pythons, and $52.00 for my baby ball pythons a year.

How much they cost me in utilities I have no idea, as I have always had ball pythons, and other reptiles.

Hope that helps you some, and has some information you were looking for!

Considering all their husbandry needs, their food cost, vet costs it can get pretty pricy.

haha and yet we are still inclined to buy more snakes :]

i put under 100 but now that i think about it thats terribly wrong. i would say aroudn 500-1k a year

where i am i can only get rats at petco...6 bucks a pop..phew...and i buy F/T for my hondo, not as expensive 3 bucks a pop and aspen 15 bucks every other month

    rats 52 x 6 = 312
    mice 52 x 3 = 156
    aspen 15 x 6 = 90

    grand total approximate = 558

Well, I am the same, this was my first year of breeding, I called it my practice year. BUT, all my good breeder females were newborns, so I wont be producing the real clutches I want for another couple of seasons. I have 50 breeder animals right now, 11 are males. I say, I have spent $20k in 1.5 years

    for my whole collection

ill eastimate 1k for food n beding for the food and what not
utilities for all my reptiles is prob 600 a year (frickin bearded dragons bulbs are most of this)
i put another few hundred into building more caging or rebuilding a better design each year it seems, once i come up with my "grand cage/rack design" i won't have to spend anymore lol. i like to try out different things and not afraid to waste some money doing it.

    so ill say 2k a year + w/e i spend on snakes

Well, this is something I don't like to think about! lol
I probably spend around 1k a year on food (conservative estimate, I think it's more) for 4 snakes, 5 Leopard geckos and a Greek tortoise.
I haven't calculated the cost of supplies but it was (initial set up and upgrading) a LOT; 4 Boaphiles for the snakes, 4 RHP's for the Boaphiles, 5 RHP's for geckos (yeah, overkill), 5 20 gallon tanks, Turtle's table was cheap (I built it) and all the "stuff" that goes in the tanks. Now I'm down to basics for upkeep...light bulbs (UVB/mega/red), news paper, paper towels and coconut coir.
No clue on the power bill, I've always had the 'kids' here at this apartment. It did go up when I got Turtle though, dang lights! I also keep it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than I would if it were just me and the dog...

All figures are approxamate based on averages.

    Annual expenses
    food bill $4160
    Rent $1800
    Utilities $600
    Bedding $352
Parasite Prevention $175 includes mite prevention and annual worming
    Cleaning supplies $75
    Medical supplies $100
    Total $7262

This year it will be a little higher because we purchased 5 new(new to us) racks, heat tape and electronics for controlling the heat. We also purchased a lot of new animals this year. The good thing is we are still in the positive with the animals paying for the themselves so far this year!

Re: How much do you spend?
Probably somewhere around $2K in food per year. Other than occasion vet visits I don't really have other expenses. The electricity for the racks and space heater don't seem to be running me much (barely a noticeable difference, actually), and I get the newspaper delivered anyway.

So I guess there are occasional vet visits when needed and start-up costs. But things like racks and the purchase of new animals, tubs, or dishes aren't routine costs. In the past year I've probably spent over $10,000, but I won't be spending anywhere near that ever again. I just bought all of my racks and a whole bunch of new animals.
