Is this 2007 female a Pastel or just a pretty Normal ?

I found on craigslist a person selling a 2007 female pastel. If she is a true pastel then it's a steal for the price she wants for that size because I could start breeding her this year. She lives an our away so I cannot just go see the snake in person before making a decision. So far it's the only picture she has and it's in some very white lighting. She will be able to provide me with more pictures once she gets home.

I know some pastel lose their bright colors as they grow and get more pale, but I have no idea if this is a true pastel or just a very pretty normal. I need the experts input on this. Also if anyone has pictures of adult Pastel for me to look at it would be appreciated.

I agree that it looks normal. Look at all the flames on your pastel compared to almost none on hers. Pretty normal though.

She's selling her with a 55 ga tank and all accessories for $200. If she would be a pastel it would be well worthed and sell the tank back.

So far it's a no go. For a breeeding size female though it might still be worthed to see if she would take $50 for that pretty female. I could breed her to my Mojave male this year and maybe get lucky with a Mojave female...

I will see what her other pictures look like tonight.

Its a normal :gj:.Oh and she knows it because when i wrote and asked her if she was sure it was a female she said i could check for myself.Although when i asked her the color of the eyes she never responded back :rolleyes:.So i think she is trying to pass a normal as "something special" :rolleyes:.Its NOT though :rofl:

I see i'm not the only one lurking on CL :P Thanks a lot though. My husband told me he ain't driving unless it's a real pastel, so I don't think this is going to go through.

It's nice to have friends on a ball python forum when unsure of something :)

If this person is selling this animal as a pastel there are 2 options here

1# She is not knowledgeable about morphs
2# He/she knows what he/she has but is misrepresentation the animal.

Either way if you decide to pick up this animal make sure to sex "her" on site.

Thanks everybody about the comments on my pastel. She is very gorgeous, but very skiddish. She is even afraid of her food. I have to work on her temperament.

The girl replied to me that she was more tan so that she looked more like a normal....lol

WOULD be a steal if it was a pastel but no way is that a pastel IMO.

I personally own a two year old male, and he still holds his color. They tend to brown out with age, but not actually turn brown lol. My question for you is, why not compare the picture to yours at home? Your pastel is a prime example of the pastel gene and if it doesn't resemble that, then it can't be a pastel. Start going with your gut, I think you knew the answer to your question before you asked you just wanted a second opinion ;)

I have never seen a pastel that doesn't look like a pastel so I would definitely be leery of this guy. There are SOOO many people that think there normals are something special because they are lighter, or something else(there are morphs that resemble normals, but there is usually more obvious markers on it indicating a possible new mutation). What people don't seem to get is that normals are not all created equal and do have variance in pattern/color as well. For example I have a black back ball python. Its a normal with a black back lol. I also have a normal that is almost as light as a fire, but guess what...Its a normal lol. Beautiful in their own right, but still a normal. Good Luck!

My pastel is an obvious one, reason I got her, but there is so many variances out there like you mentionned, and I've seen people selling "pastels" before that didn't look that obvious.

So I wasn't sure if the pale ones are actually considered pastels but just a poor quality one. And the picture she provided me with could be just a very bad camera with too much white exposure with bad lighting.

Either way, I am not getting it lol

I never really saw a pastel that wasn't obvious, and wouldn't think of buying one that isn't so just keep that in mind when selecting one. Or a good rule of thumb for ya, if its not as pretty as your boy there, then forget about it lol

The guy I got her from said the guy he bought her from said it was a Graziani. But who knows :P

Either way she is pretty and I liked the price. Got her for less than $200 from someone in Indiana.
