Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
Father is 100% Scottish for as far back as we can trace the family tree. Mom is from Canada, with her background mostly British with a little bit of African American (although she and I are oh-my-goodness pasty, teehee).
I just consider myself 100% Canadian with love of Scotland running through my blood!

Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
I'm half German, a quarter Lebanese and a quarter Nicaraguan.
Mom is half Lebanese and half Nicaraguan, her mom being Nicaraguan and her dad being Lebanese.
Dad is full blood German.
My mom was born and grew up in San Fransisco (lived in Nicaragua for a year too), dad always lived in Trenton until he moved here from being in the Navy. Grandparents moved here with my mom and her two other siblings.
Born and raised here, still live here in Arizona.
I admire being more German than the other stuff, the other stuff doesn't interest me much. I'm trying to learn German and next year I'm taking a class called German I so I can learn the language.:)

Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
I'm a military brat who went into civilian life around 9. As far as where my family is from, Ireland mostly, the rest is Caucasian mutt. But i dont see how the immediate pre-America location my family came from really matters.
Being a suburbanite in a good community leads to people who are good community suburbanites, being in an urban/section 8/bad suburban area leads to people who are most likely going to share most of their behavior in common with those groups of people... How you are raised, how much peer influence you had, and the kinds of people who your peers were affects you a lot more than the location that your family line was prior to coming to America.
Note that that excludes people who are not part of America or are first/second generation immigrants.

Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
Some of my grandparents immigrated here from places like Poland and Australia.
So, I'm mostly German and English, but entirely American Mutt. lol

Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
On my mom's side I have Cherokee, Russian, English, German and Seminole. On my dad's side I have Polish and some others I'm unsure of. As a baby I looked REALLY Polish!
-
Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
All Polish. Grew up in a little Polish neighborhood near Montrose and Central in Chicago.

I am a Slavic Jew, more or less. :gj:
My parents are both Jewish... Dad's side Ukrainian & Hungarian, Mom's side mostly Polish. Oh, and I'm third-generation American, unless you count my (late) Canadian grandmother as foreign-born. ;)

Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?

Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
I'm an American mutt. All my ancestry is from Europe, probably northern Europe, but we've been in the US for more generations than anyone can recall.

Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
American.
AKA - Mutt. Don't honestly know my background beyond that and don't really care. All that matters is my current nationality.
-
Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
I'm just gonna say American. :salute:
Family tree says... Scottish and Swedish
-
Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
My forefathers came from Norway Sweden and Germany. I'm from Minnesota.

Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
The family of my surname came here in the 1700's from Germany, first to Virginia and later homesteaded land in Indiana on the Ohio River as soon as it was opened to homesteading. They stayed there for well over 100 years raising tobacco as a commercial crop and primarily selling firewood to steamships that traversed the Ohio River. They inter married with other German families for the most part but also anglicized the name.
One of My Grandmothers was a French Canadian immigrant who came here at the age of 16 speaking no English. The other Grandmother immigrated from England at the age of 12 so that makes up 1/2 my bloodline between the two of them.
I know that there is a little Dutch and Irish way back and probably much more that I am not aware of as my family has been here for a long time.
My wife is descended from a Lithuanian Father and a Mother of Tennessee Scotch-Irish with the obligatory Cherokee and is a descendant of Daniel Boone.
So my kids get the whole recipe.

Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
From my knowledge of the family's geneology, I think you pretty much ahve to go back to the early 1800s to find ancestors of mine who weren't born here. Plenty came over pre-revolution.
I've even got ancestors in the Jamestown colony, and am related to a general for the American army in the revolution.

Re: What Are Your Backgrounds?
German and Irish on my moms side...Polish and Australian on my dad side. The Australian is most likely Irish because they are obviously not Aborigines :P...the Irish last name on my paternal grandmothers side leads us to believe they were orginally Irish convicts that were transported to Australia.
