    What's too hot?
Summer has struck big time, and it's really warm in my house.

The hot side of my bp's tank is about 98-99, and the cool side is around 85. I unplugged the UTH when I noticed but it hasn't really made a difference. It's the rainforest one, so it's lower temp (I didn't know that til after I had bought it) and I have repticarpet between it and the snake. so I don't know how much of anything it actually does.

anyway, so I'm rambling. snakers has been in the cool side for days now. I'm worried that I might roast him out.

when should I really start to worry? what can I do about it without a dimmer on his lamp?

I would try and find a way/cooler place to get the tank. 85 isnt to hot but it wont offer the drop the sake should have. lower your hot side to the proper temps though

Since its so hot out i wouldn't use the lamp at all. Just use the under tank heating.

Hot side too hot already, needs to be like 92'ish

Ill bet if you get the hot side down to the right temp, it'd drop your cool side down to a better temp as well.

Maybe unplug the lamp and just use the UTH see what it makes the temperature. Besides that just try to move the tank to a cooler place or get an air conditioner.

I agree, ditch the lamp if it's that hot. 85 is almost high side temps. I wouldn't let it get over 92.

If it's 85, just turn off the heat source altogether until it drops to 80. The snake will be fine without a gradient for a while. Just make sure that you turn the heat back on promptly when it cools in the evening.

You should have some sort of controller on your heat source anyhow. Don't let it get above 93 max on the hot side of your snake's cage.

Under normal circumstances, with my setup, all the gradient heat worked out perfectly, but now that it's 10 degrees warmer everywhere, I was overwhelmed! Lol, I think the heat effected my thinking too!

Thanks for your ideas everyone, I think I'll reverse the timer on the lamp for the summer :)

Are you using a thermostat? If not you def need to get one to control that UTH. Also I might suggest ditching the reptile carpet and going straight to paper towels or newspapers. The carpet is a magnet for all kinds of bacteria.

I have the repticarpet to keep the substrate between the glass and the snake and the uth is of the cooler variety. I also have spare repticarpet that I replace each time I clean the tank. I'm comfortable with my level of cleanliness and I'm not going to tear apart an investment every time I run across new advice, but thanks :)

Investment, I sure hope its not a normal your calling an investment. Reptile Carpet is garbage and you were given sound advice about it being a magnet for bacteria. Which can lead to many other problems.

Not trying to come off rude but tossing aside sound advice to hear what you wanted will get you no where on forums.

I meant that every new piece of equipment or scenery that I buy for the comfort of my snake is an investment. I have scrapped a lot of things as I learn, and I am pretty sure I got the repticarpet instructions from a tutorial about UTH, so the snake doesn't burn itself on the glass. and I can't think of any other source of advice I am taking in, but this forum.
