Spider x Black Pastel x Pastel and Temperatures
    Hi,

I'm talking to my friend, Julee, who I will be breeding ball pythons with in six years :)

She had a few good question.

    1. If Black Pastel x Pastel is a Pewter, and a Spider x Pastel is a BumbleBee, could I breed a male Black Pastel and Spider to a female Pastel and get BumbleBees and Pewters?

I used the World of Ball Python's Genetic Wizard, and this is what came out:

(I selected male Spider and Black Pastel, but it turned it into a BlackBee).
    MALE: Black Bee
    FEMALE: Pastel

    12.5%: Normal
    12.5%: Pastel
    12.5%: Black Pastel
    12.5%: Black Pastel, Pastel
    12.5%: Spider
    12.5%: Spider, Pastel
    12.5%: Black Pastel, Spider
    12.5%: Black Pastel, Spider, Pastel

    2. I know that some lizard's eggs, if incubated at a certain temperature, can hatch out specificly males or females. Is that true for ball pythons? And, if it is true, what temperature for males, and what temperature for females?

I was thinking that this isn't true, since most people that want females can luck out. I just wanted to know :)

    Thanks,
    ~ Mac

    Hi,

No I don't think so - each egg can only have one male and one female parent.

You could get black bees and bumblebees, spiders, black pastels, pastels and normals from the multi-sire clutch but never any combinations involving genes from both males.

    **edit**

Hang on I completely got the male and female mixed up.

    with a female pastel and male black pastels and spider then yes you can get;

Black pewters, bumblebees, spiders, pastels, black pastels and normals.

But no blackbees would be possible.

    **end edit**

And nobody has ever found any evidence that sex is linked to the temps of the eggs I'm afraid - I wish it was.

Black pastel x Spider will get you Black Bees

Black Pastel x Cinnamon wll give you black pewters

Incubation temps dont play a role on sex with snakes.

    Hi,

    Thanks everyone!

How much would a Black Bee and Black Pewter cost?

    What are you doing?
    Planning 6 years ahead?
The plans you have right now I'll bet in 6 years will change completely.
Never have plans 6 years ahead unless you are getting for sure or already have the animals to produce what you wanna produce.

All I'm trying to say is in 6 years do you really think you'll want a Black Pastel and Pastel and Spider? Most likely not?

Not to sure if others on this site plan 6 years ahead but it's just my opinion.
    The maximum I ever plan ahead is around 1 ; 1 1/2.

    Hi,

I will actually be getting a few morphs at the end of the year to raise, and I will be breeding them. I'll be getting them at the end of the year at the Columbus reptile show for sure, but I won't be breeding them right now. And I do have a tendancy to plan ahead. But I feel it helps a lot :)

You are right a black pastel is close to the cinnimon pastel, now reffered to as a cinnimon, the pastel reference has been dropped with the cinnimon..no pastel gene is present..as far as I am aware..a black pewter is a bp x pastel..the enchi is the same, reffered to as an enchi pastel but should really be called an enchi as no pastel gene is present unless mated with the pastel gene then you would have a pastel enchi

I can see it sorta working for you but you and your friend Julee would be pretty stupid to wait 6 years just for the fact that the morphs you love right now will not be the morphs you'll love in 6 years because there will be at least another 200-250 morphs produced or even more and your mind will change.

Just my prospective of it all.

Is there supposed to be some sort of advice in there?? Looks more like an insult to me. I don't feel calling someone stupid for planning ahead a good way to get your point across.

I do agree that 6 years is rather long but who's to say what the reasons are other than the parties involved?

    Sorry to get off topic.

Excuse me, Daniel? I'm stupid? Way to make judgements without even meeting the person first, it seems like that's a great way to meet people.

So what if we have a dream? What's it to you? If you don't have legitimate advice pertaining to the topic at hand, don't post. Times change as do people, who cares? I don't have the option, I need to wait 3 years atleast since I cannot have snakes under this roof. You don't know either of us, my background, my experience with reptiles, anything. Don't be so quick to judge.

We come here to learn, not set things in stone. If we decide to do different morphs, so be it, atleast we learned about the genes of the ones we asked.

    --Julee.

Missed a post- while you didn't mean to, doesn't change the fact that you did. Hopefully we can manage to get along.
