Just giving a heads up for those who aren't already aware of this one. It's a new shipping service using UPS as its carrier.

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
Hmmmm...very interesting, now that I'm FedEx Certified...
-
Re: ReptilesExpress.com
Well, look at it this way. :) If you sign up with ReptilesExpress, your customers have options. :D
I'm still waiting for FedEx to get back to me about the waiver... grrr... I signed up for membership through ReptilesExpress earlier tonight.

Do you have an idea on their rates? Is it comparible to SYR or cheaper than FedEx?
-
Re: ReptilesExpress.com
I never got a chance to use SYR before it put a stop to snake shipments so I can't compare the two from past experience, but you can get a rate quote on their website. It's definitely cheaper than FedEx.
-
Re: ReptilesExpress.com
That's great! I shipped my test package out with FedEx, but have not heard anything back yet. It seems like it is going to be a long process to become certified. I have quite a few animals to ship out, so this is very helpful. I just signed up, so hopefully I will be able to start shipping this coming Monday.

Most definitely cheaper than FedEx...I just mailed out two snakes last night...I could've saved $8 on one and possibly close to $12 on the other...Hmmmm, interesting...But DAMN, now that I got a great rep, I'm starting to be a little loyal to FedEx even though the beginning of the process sucked urates!!! I signed up for grins and giggles, we'll see...

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
ya, I joined last night also, and was in the process of fed ex cert, like pulling teeth, and reptile expresses rates are way better!!! so ya , come on reptile express!?!??!?!?:gj:

-
Re: ReptilesExpress.com
Very similar to reptileexpress.com for Canadians. Does anyone know if these two are linked or it's just a coinsidence? :)
-
Re: ReptilesExpress.com
From the website:
"Finally, a credit card is required to purchase the membership and keep on file in the event there are additional charges from UPS."
Anyone got word yet on how much this membership fee is?
-
Re: ReptilesExpress.com

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
After the whole Repster mess people are gonna be very leery of someone coming out of nowhere and offering a service like this.
Who are they? How long have they been on the scene?
I check there site I was not even able to find out who the owner was.
Since they are according to their site
Quote:
As a high volume shipper with UPS, we offer a sizeable discount off the price of Overnight shipping to our member customers.
they must have a presence in this industry so I wonder why there is no mention of who they are. :confuzd:
Anyway just not something I would jump into like that without knowing anything.

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
I only looked very quickly so sorry if I missed it but is this going to be another SYR mess because I don't see on their website that you can specifically ship snakes.

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
I am a little weary about giving my cc#. Maybe if the person behind the scene was well known I might not have a problem. But just to get a membership they need that info right off the bat...
I don't understand why? If I used them and how I paid for the transaction is should be up to me.

Ditto. I need a lot more assurance before I'd consider it.

Here's a couple of links to threads concerning Reptiles Express on the Board of Inquiry. You may get some of the answers to your questions there.

I sent Brendan an email to make sure he was aware of this thread and invited him to join the forum so he can respond to your questions directly.
Here is his reply:
I just looked at the BP thread. I am not a member or I would jump on there to answer a few of the questions. Clay Ghann is one of my partners in RE.com. We have had friend and breeders we know and trust testing our site for over 6 months now. They have supplied us with testimonials based on there testing with us. There is no cost for the membership. We use a CC to verify identity of our members. You can use the CC you have on file or any other payment you want to purchase shipping supplies or labels. I will join so I can post but until then feel free to post this email.

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
I registered for membership for RE on Friday and by Sunday I was approved (I took a day to get the paper signed and emailed back).
I shipped my first package out yesterday which arrive perfectly this morning with out any issues or delays.
The service was awesome and responses were fast. I will defiantly be using them for any future shipping. The website is laid out very well and very easy to use.

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
I'm currently FedEx certified.... and have used them for years.... but it's good to have another option... not to mention the rates are about 20$ less than FedEx...
I sent an application to them yesterday with a few questions and Debbie Price(one of the owners) promptly called me back. Basically they corrected the issues that made SYR fail....Now that you have to sign contract saying you wont ship anything illegal... it takes the anonymity out of it....
Hopefully they work out.... I would hate to have another mass panic like with the SYR.com... ordeal

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
I thought I should share this experience with all of you:
A couple weeks ago I signed up at Reptiles Express. I had some internet problems while signing up so I sent Debbie an email making sure everything went through. She responded VERY quickly and helped me get everything in order. Right off the bat I was impressed with their customer service.
On Tuesday (8/10) I was ready to ship my first package using Reptiles Express. I printed out the label, packaged everything up, and made my way to the nearest UPS drop off. When I got to the UPS store they told me that they wouldn't take my package. I showed them the letter Reptiles Express suggested I keep with me. The letter is signed by UPS's Director of Dangerous Goods and basically states that UPS agrees to ship live non-venomous reptiles through Reptiles Express. They UPS employees still refused to take my package.
I called Debbie and she spent the next 20 minutes making phone calls. about 35-40 minutes later everyone tells me that I have to drive to the St. Louis UPS hub and drop it off there. They said that they are expecting me over at the hub and that they will take the package.
So I make the drive out to the hub and when I get there - they refuse. More then just refusing they were all being pretty rude about it. I even heard some of the employees joking about killing the snake!!!! So I get back on the phone with Debbie and she spends the next 30-45 minutes making more phone calls. Apparently someone Debbie had spoken with was supposed to call the hub to let them know they could take the package, but the call was never made and when Debbie tried calling this person back she couldn't get a hold of her. I was really impressed with Debbie's effort. It felt great knowing I had someone fighting for me.
About an hour later UPS calls in one of their lost prevention employees. She comes in and takes a look at the letter from Reptiles Express. She asks me a lot of questions and then goes to make some phone calls. After about 20 minutes later she comes out and tells me that it was all cleared up and that I was allowed to ship the package! This lady was the only UPS employee that treated me with any kind of respect that day. She made sure that all the employees knew that they had to accept packages from me and Reptiles Express. She was very helpful!
So I finally send my package out. The next morning they arrive at their destination healthy! ...End of story? I wish it was...
The next day I receive a phone call from the helpful lost prevention lady at UPS. She tells me that the letter was fake and that the signature was copy and pasted. She says that Reptiles Express had a temporary pilot program that allowed them to ship animals but that it didn't work out. She informed me that the customers of Reptiles Express had no way of knowing any of this so none of the customers are held responsible but Reptiles Express is in a lot of trouble.
Now, UPS has really gone all over the place with their position. They went from telling me it was ok to ship to no it's not ok back to everything is fine and then back again to it's not ok. I'm really not sure what to believe here. I sent Reptiles Express an email explaining the phone call I received and Debbie emailed me back saying that she forwarded the email to the owners and that she hoped everything would be worked out soon.
I'm not sure what to think of all this. I did want to share it with all of you to get your opinions.

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
I am shipping out a ball python today for next day delivery with ReptilesExpress. I just got a confirmation email from UPS that they received the information and I am dropping the snake off at the nearest HUB later today. I will let you know how it goes. I have the letter from ReptilesExpress, Debbies phone number, and the confirmation email all printed out just in case. You are right about Debbie though. Her customer service is outstanding and she even replied to my email within minutes on Sunday.
-
Re: ReptilesExpress.com
Update: I had zero issues using ReptilesExpress through UPS to ship my snake. I printed out the shipping label, attached it to the insulated box, drove down to the local UPS Customer Center (HUB) and gave it to the guy behind the counter. No questions asked other than was it pre-labeled. I had zero issues with UPS and my package was labeled as a non venomous reptile and had ball python - Python regius written on the label. Package was delivered today at 10:46 AM and the snake was in great condition. Again, the customer service I received was second to none.

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
I think ColdBloodedCarnival had issues shipping due to going to the UPS Store to drop off the package. I was told by Debbie that ReptilesExpress has their contract with the UPS Customer Centers (HUBS) and not the UPS Stores, etc. UPS Stores are almost all franchised and the owners can set up their own policy for shipping snakes. She told me that I could try to contact them first but would most likely have to go directly to the HUB. My local UPS Store also told me that UPS does not ship snakes but the guy was a herper as well and found me a closer HUB in Pittsburgh to take mine to. Also, I purchased my shipping label directly from ReptilesExpress and am attaching both emails I received from UPS for my shipment to show it was no fake:

debbie from RE got back to me shortly after i left a message,RE addressed these issues on fauna and debbie told me they would address them here also,so i'll let that happen.
BTW at this point i have every reason to believe that RE is the real deal working very hard at providing a much needed service to the reptile community, however time will be the ulitmate judge.

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
I just got rejected at my local hub. They made some calls, and also stated that the letter was fake. I called Debbie, and she is currently trying to clear things up. I will let you know how this turns out.
Right now I am not happy, so I will just go to my corner and wait for the outcome.
Is there a way to rush FedEx Certification?

I'm wondering if these are just a few HUBS that are doing this and not all UPS HUBS in general. As I stated above, I had no issues whatsoever and I know the guy saw what I had in the package as he read the label. If it wasn't legit, I doubt mine would have been delivered.

I have to ship one out tomorrow, we'll see what happens but I just read in the UPS website that snakes are not allowed at all.

Hope this eases some of your minds. I sent Debbie Price from ReptilesExpress an email regarding Fallguy's post about their HUB refusing to ship his snake. I asked her if I could post her response. This is what she had to say:

I have been on the Fauna Site and you are right they go on and on and you have to repeat-------------
"Here is what I say occasionally we do have Hubs that are not aware of our waiver if a customer has a problem I will call the preferred customer service team after they call the Hub everything gets straighten out
I even had a Hub call the customer personally the next day in IA and apologize that they were not a ware of our waiver and told him he will never have a problem again
UPS was at the Daytona show meeting people in the industry with us to become more comfortable with snake shipping. They spent 4 hours with us seeing how we operate and watching how snakes and reptiles are package. We have NEVER been notified in writing by ANYONE at UPS to stop shipping snakes so it is business as usual for ReptilesExpress and we will do everything we can for the industry to keep our shipping waiver"

I would love for you to help me out and yes this can be used on any site

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
Forgive me if I seem out of line. I would like to see a current waiver. The one I got when I processed the shipment didnt have Reptiles Express on it, and the date was over a year old. I would like to contact the person UPS directly, that signed the waiver. As I am one of the people that had problems, I want to make 100% sure that I am in the right before it happens again. I now feel that if I keep going back to try, and I am still in the wrong, I will be ruining the image of this community. I dont want that. Again, forgive me for being filled with doubt. It was not only me that was affected by this.
-
I just shipped out a package yesterday, 9/8/10 and UPS took the package without a question. I was actually surprised when I handed the UPS employee the package and all she said was thank you. I was ready to hand over the waiver but did not need it.

I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. I would probably feel the exact same way if my first shipment with them went as yours did. You may want to speak to Debbie directly. She has been extremely helpful in answering all of my concerns/questions. She told me that your issue has happened to others but she was able to straighten the problem out after a few phone calls. You may want to have her speak to the HUB and also her other UPS contacts.

That is exactly how my shipment went. Smooth, no questions asked.

Re: ReptilesExpress.com
I did speak with her on the phone. I let her know how my experiance went, and she told me the same thing. It is usually handled pretty quick. I have not heard back from her yet. I am still waiting patiently, and hoping for the best. I do still have a snake that needs to go for a ride.
One concern, though... If we are all handing the packages over, and there are no questions asked, (which is how it should be) how do we know if we are doing the right thing? I really do want to know that we are operating within our limits. We are getting two different stories, and as of right now, I have to believe the UPS side. We all should be.
I think I will not comment any further on this, until I have a definate answer on my end.

I agree with Greg, I can see why you're upset but everytime there's a start-up business there are always going to be kinks and bumps along the road in the beginning. Unfortunately you happened to hit a bump and I hope that Debbie can take care of it asap. As far as I know, I have followed the process required to ship thru ReptilesExpress. I work very close with UPS and by all means I'm not putting them down at all, they do an outstanding job but they are known to change processes and their minds quite often. They will tell you one thing today and another tomorrow only because not everyone is on the same page.
