    shows vs. breeders
are the morphs more expensive at shows vs. buying directly from breeders. i'd think so cuz they'd have to keep up with the competition. am i right?

It all depends....I've seen a lot of really good deals at shows but I've also seen a lot of ridiculous prices at shows as well.

    This.

Its been bad enough I've seen a "breeder" try to sell a regular pastel labeled as a super pastel. But that is not that common.

It kind of depends on the show or the breeder. I do most of my dealing and buying at shows because its easier for me, but i have bought offline and will continue to do so.

I try to buy directly from the breeders.
When I have purchased animals from shows it's usually pre-arranged and I'm really only picking something up.

You can get good or bad deals, both at shows and online.

I shop for the snake, not the price, so it's rare that I find a snake at a show that meets my criteria that I have for the morph I may be in the market for. It takes me longer to add to my collection, but I prefer to buy online and find the "perfect" snake for me, even if that means waiting, and waiting, and waiting in some cases - like I did for my cinnamon and lesser males - but I think the wait was worth it:

And I was not in the market for another pastel, but stumbled across this girl recently and had to add her:

Essentially - I don't add a morph just to add it - it has to be the best example that I can find - even if that means paying more for it.

man- thats really the best cinni ive ever seen. the lesser is stunning too. is that that pastel that u bought because of my pastel question thread???

garrick has really some nice pastels there...

but i agree- i do it like u. i dont go to a show and buy a lesser. i search the web fpr pics and if i like it, i per order it and buy it at the show.

bob clark and mike wilbanks have a cool way. when u preorder the snakes, they bring em for dollar price to germany- no additional charges like if i would import it myself (700$ for 1 package would really be too much- or u need to buy much animals or a killer ball for many thousands).

ive seen in a magazin a mojave- the best ive ever seen. for about half a year im searching an animal like taht and havent found it till now. but once if found it, ill be the happiest camper in the world...

I am wondering the same thing. I have 3 females that should be ready to breed and I am on an extremely tight budget for my last male. I decided that I would love to get a spider or cinny male (08 or 09) that is ready to breed. I am trying to hold off for a show in Dallas at the end of July but am tempted to buy online from a breeder.

On the other hand, I bought 4 BP's online over the last month or so and 3 from a local breeder. Its nice knowing the breeder in town and having him answer questions and tell me about other morphs he maybe clearing out. I was able to see his set up and see what he was breeding and that he did not have a need for the BP morph I bought. It did make me feel better and not that I was buying a snake that was a bad eater, didn't take breeding, etc.

The majority of my collection has been purchased online, and will purchase at shows if I see something that catches me.I too will wait it out to find the perfect one to suit what I am looking to produce, I dont think I have ever paid "asking price" for anything in my collection

I have bought online and at shows and have had good experiences with both. I like buying from shows because you can hold the snake and you can make sure it's what you want. The last snakes that I got where from a show and I got them from Tim Bailey who is a great breeder and an awesome person to talk to.

I would much rather buy directly from the breeder. I am afraid of getting mites, or worse, from shows.

You can buy directly from the breeder at a show that's where I met Tim Bailey from Bailey and Bailey Reptiles and Sean from Exotics by Nature. And now that I have met them that's where I will be getting my ball pythons from.
