Identify Lesser and Lesser / Pastel
I am really new to genetics which is why I bought 'Designer Morphs' by John Berry, which is an awesome, although not cheap, book.

I have checked out Lessers and also Lesser / Pastels and I have trouble to tell them apart. Basically I want to breed my BEL end of 2011 (to give me enough time to learn all the how-to's needed) and I always loved Lessers. Now someone suggested a Pastel which would give you 50/50 odds to get Lessers and Pastel/Lessers.

Most 'lesser' searches end up in Lesser/Platinum threads etc., so a few pictures from adults and hatchlings would be nice :please:

I was in the same boat as you a few years ago,but there are a few ways to tell the diffrence between the two. The first is have a side by comparison this makes it pretty obvious that there's "a little something extra" in one of the snakes. If that's not possible look at the blushing on the Lesser pastel my LP has insane blushing.Lesser pastels should also have more yellow to them than a regular lesser. These things vary from snake to snake but that's at least a start.I would post some pics but I'm like 500miles from my computer, try checking out the morphs section on NERD's site.

My Pastel - lesser has green eyes which I believe is consistent with anything that is holding pastel gene in it. Also Berry's second book will be available in the USA the end of July I think. I am pretty excited about that.

You mean Volume one: Second Edition or Volume two ?

Got Volume one: Second Edition (Ball and Boa) yesterday and it says at the end of the book that Volume two is being released in winter

Ah well .. I found a solution to my problem though (identifying that is) - I bought a pinstripe instead :rolleye2:

Another thing you have to look at is what kind of pastel is it. There are a lot and each one will add something special to the look of the Lesser/Pastel.

Personally if you are going to have issues telling them appart either go with a different snake to breed with or just claim they're all lesser/50% het pastels. Simply raise them and breed them to "prove" them out.

Pins are a bit more expensive obviously but possible Kingpins make it all worth it. Knowing that Offspring (with a Super Lesser) gives either Lesser or Kingpins, is awesome. Don't even care what perentage lol. Love both.

From John Berry about volume 2: "For the US we are sending a bulk order to our warehouse in MI, however they will only there around the end of July as they go sea-freight. I think we will start local US deliveries in early August"

i meat him at terraristika and watched his "talking)-idk the right word. -he talked and hundert ppl listened.

the volume one is about boas and balls- the second edition will be realesed this winter and is about colubrids (espaccially corns). the third edition will be about other pythons- like retics, burmese, gtp, bloods etc.

he gave us a little sneek preview on the dia...
