I am so excited and happy!

I have been wanting a crested gecko for a few weeks now, and after telling my mom about how they don't need insects, and how they don't need heat, and a few other things, and she told me I could get one!

I am so happy right now!

Just be sure to keep an eye on the temps when the air is on or durring winter time! I use a 12x12x18T viv and run a 50W lamp to keep the top at a constant 80 degrees durring the day and around 70-75 at the bottom using a small UTH that runs 24 hours a day. They do need a day / night cycle so if your not using lamps be sure there is enough daytime light and that it changes from light to dark a regular schedual.
They will do great without Crickets...but man if you ever get a chance to get some you wont regret it, its a blast to watch them hunt! I get my Crickets from Petco for 10 cents a piece, I buy a dozen every week. Its nice because they are bagged for you, you just dump in a little calcium powder, shake and dump the bag inside the enclosure, I have never had one get out. Even durring the day, if she sees crickets she will come down out of her bushy plant and hunt in like 5 seconds, lol. AMBUSH !!!! hahahaha...she will actualy dive from a branch and just hammer the crickets, quite fun to watch. hehehe :banana: I pick up some small Mealworms once in a while too for a nice fatty treat.

I am getting my geckos from Melissa at Sublime Reptiles... she is a sweetie! And I am hoping for a Dalmatian or Super Dalmatian, and don't worry, I will post a thousand pictures :D

Actually...
Heat lamps really dry out there enclosure and they need a lot of humidity so I wouldn't recommend a heat lamp.
And thy don't need a day night temp cycle.
Indirect sunlight from a window is fine, they don't need lights.
Never feed, NEVER feed baby food, addictive with poor nutrients. (mdb)
in the winter all my geckos are kept at about 65-70 for the entire winter with no temp drop at night. I only keep em cool so they can have a break from breeding.
If you want to breed you may want to get an uth. If not don't worry about it.

Thanks Jeremy! I'm getting my gecko from someone different (change of plans), Limey from Royal Reptilia. He says that because I'm under-aged, he's giving me a Dalmatian for only the price of shipping! He says that he likes to get children into this hobby :D

In their natural habitat the daytime temperature would be about 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Their temperature should be kept between the low 70’s to 84 degrees during the daytime. At night it can drop as low as 60 degrees. This is what I go by. Indirect lighting from a window is still providing a light cycle, I provide additional light just to get my day temps right, and it makes the viv look great. After putting close to $400 in one small viv I want to be able to see it, if humidity ever becomes an issue I would just mist the enclosure again. I mist once in the morning and once after the lights go out.
Some people have reared crested geckos feeding pureed fruits and fruit baby foods as well as live foods. If you choose to do this then you will have to ensure that your cresties are receiving the correct levels of supplementation. All fruit puree and live food should be supplemented with vitamins, minerals, calcium and D3. My Crestie enjoys all natural banana baby food mixed with CGD wich I offer once a week.
To avoid impactions with mealies I only offer the smallest ones I can buy...these are tiny, and any showing signs of dropping their Exo. are left in the cup until they are soft, they are all ate by morning. I have never had any trouble with mealies and my Crestie is as healthy and happy as can be.

Sorry but too much risk for me :). I forget where I read it (I think it was on Allen rapashy site) but over 80*F can actually be leathal to your crestie. Or cause extreme amounts of stress.
I am not trying to bash you and I'm just speaking from my own personal experience.
Also I have heard so many horror stories of people feeding baby food and then there crestie won't touch there cgd. Then you have to go through the whole "little by little cgd with baby food till it's just cgd with water" and I'm not really into that.
Why risk it when there is a food that has ALL the nutrients they need to thrive?
And temp wise and light wise is for your viv :). It is not really necassary. Like I said, three years of breeding cresties and I keep them at room temperature in my basement. 70-78 in the summer and 65-70 in the winter. After about a 2-3 month cool down I'll turn on there uth set for 75 and the thermostat shuts it off all summer.

Again, just speaking from personal experience and reasearch.

Are you talking about just straight baby food ? I feed a 50/50 mixture of CGD and baby food. The baby food I use all natural, has no preservatives, no artificial colors, and no starch. Only draw back is once you open it you have to use it, it has no shelf life once open.

Wish I had a basement...that sounds comfy, lol. My apartment is only about 12 years old but its terrible. Air comes in around the outlets, the windows have moisture between the glass panes, the temps rise by about 7 degrees at night, and they get so humid everything feels damp, and I live on the 2nd floor. I have to run the air to keep it nice in here, so the temps jump around alot. Takes a bit of work to manage my enclosures.
