Popping my snake
Hello folks.. i just did pop my snake and what's weird is.. i saw there's only ONE of those red rods (is he male then?) coming out of its cloaca and plus some white stuff came out, some fluid which squirt on my face and went straight to my eyes and a bad smell.
I did it twice, the second one was worse, coz i didnt even see any red rod, just some mountain like kinda white thing (looks like an internal organ).
maybe i'll pop him/her again some other time, im pretty sure i pissed him/her coz he looks like it. lol.
did i do anything wrong? i'm suppose to see 2 red rods for a male snake right?

Re: Popping my snake
Yeah, it's a male and ew you got snake bodily fluids in your eye, lol.
As they said, no one recommends popping snakes unless you've had someone personally teach you.

Re: Popping my snake
You can really hurt a snake if you don't know what you are doing.

Re: Popping my snake
i guess its best that i'll just bring him/her to a vet or something.. coz i dont really trust pet shops sometimes they are not that knowledgeable i guess.. :D

Re: Popping my snake
Expos are pretty handy. You can find a breeder friendly enough to pop or probe them for free. Someone might even teach you.

I tried to pop my snake today. And I also had white stuff come out. I was really gentile. Though I saw one rod but not for sure ( I was freaked out about the white stuff). But here is my real question. how much force does it take to damage the snake?? Also people say not to do it if your not experienced with it. But experienced people had a first time also.

The white stuff, more than likely, was a sperm plug or plugs if your snake is a male and old enough to produce them.
As to the amount of pressure that would damage a snake, I couldn't say. Someone with more experience than me would have to answer that. Best bet is to find an experienced breeder or herper in your area that could demonstrate proper technique for popping and help to show you hands-on how to do it correctly, for you and your snake both. YouTube has some decent videos showing the technique as well, but nothing beats being shown in person.
Good luck!

The best thing is to have someone local show you how to pop, while watching videos helps, it does not give you the idea of how much pressure to apply.
Pressure and proper position of your fingers is important.
Once someone shows you keep practicing and you will be able to pop any snake.

Cool. Thanks guys. I'm sure a live demonstration would help a ton. Just seems like there are a lot of scare tactics when it comes to this procedure. I'm a nurse and am extremely comfortable when it comes to delicate procedures just got a little irritated with all the don't do it and have someone else do it posts.

I mean if the pressure used is close to the amount of pressure it take to damage then I understand.
