ok I learned when I first started here that half logs are a no no :colbert: and you should have 2 identical hides on both the hot and cold sides. Also IMO those 2 little clips might not be able to hold a snake from opening it.

You're using digital, the hides look secure...Where is thermometer probe? Do you have UTH/thermostat? Where? Are you absolutely certain you need that light? It's very bright (stressful) and can cause humidity problems.

I think you might have the cage clips upside down, but maybe it doesn't matter.

Edit: Right! Hides should be identical so they don't have to make a choice. Log hides can be made secure, but it's just more work for you. Also, cage clips are very secure (if they're on there right). What else would you use?

I figured I'd post this along on this thread. How is my tank setup? Its new. I got the tank for free, its a 30gal which I know is big for a young BP but it was free so I couldnt turn it down. I tried to fill it with more stuff to take up room.

I have three digital thermometers, one shows humidity also. My cool side is around 78, ambient 80, humidity 40-50% and hot hide (probe under substrate against glass) is 95. I need the light due to my house being kept around 70 degrees, the cool side gets to cool if I dont have the light on slightly. It shuts off and a red light turns on at night. Background wraps around sides and back. I have the tank on a side table right now because I dont have a stand but my friend is building me one and I'll have it next week!
Let me know what you think!
    Thanks!

Edit: I know both hides should be identical...i bought these before I knew that (oops). But my BP does use both hides on a regular basis, he will move from one to the other...so maybe that means he likes them both? :)

Well, that may be called hijacking, but I can't help but answer...

That all sounds pretty excellent to me. I'd just leave the red bulb on all the time. Why use a big bright light if you don't have to?

Like you said, if he uses the hides do they really need to be identical? But I wouldn't be surprised if one day he just said, "!@#$ it!" about one and quit using it.

It's a screen lid with two screen clips on either side (which are pretty darn tight) and then I also have two large flat pieces of slate on top for added weight. I plan on getting larger rocks as he gets bigger. Right now he's only 140grams. Do you think that's secure?

Yes there is a towel on top as well, I have my air conditioning going most of the day so it's helping keep the humidity in. I'm probably going to make some of those foil panels and see how that works.

I can barely lift the lid with my clips on. I really doubt a snake could lift it.

Re: is this tank set up good?
Yes, that sounds good. The thermometer probe is usually buried under the substrate so you can monitor most directly the hottest place the snake can get. Since the UTH is 90, it's probably cooler inside and I think most people would rather know than guess by how much. The thermostat probe should go between the UTH and the glass (or on the UTH if you've already attached it).

You're right about the clips...I just didn't want to take any chances. I've heard they can be quite the escape artist at times!

And sorry for hijacking this thread......I'm new to the whole forum thing.
