    Help! Belly Wound!
My i took my snake out today amd i noticed i pink area on his belly. I think it may may be a burn, but i can't tell. His UTH is on the cheap Hygrofarm thermostat from amzon and its set to 93*. Here is a picture

I put some neosporin on it, any other advice? I'm really worried and seriously considering taking him to the vet. Sorry i couldnt get a better picture

    THanks,

Do you have a temp gun to verify the temp of the area where the UTH is?

It looks like it could be a burn, but it's hard to tell from the photo. If you are using anything like aspen, cypress, and such for substrate go ahead and remove it and put down paper towel to help keep it clean. Where do you have the thermostat probe located?

Yeah, i just checked, the uth was around 95 with the ocassional jump to 96 or 98. I feel really bad i thought i had the probe set up right.

Ok, ill do that with the paper towel. The Probe for my thermostat is just taped to the glass. I figured it could be innacurate becasue the probe is basically a metal cylinder and i really don't know where it takes the temp from so i figured just laying on the glass would do the trick.

    Thanks guys!

Do you have it mounted between the UTH and glass, or is it inside the tank?

As for the burn, a trip to the vet might be a good idea in case you need antibiotics or something like that to prevent infection...

Is a large part of her belly red or is it just that one spot?

the probe is between the glass and the substrate, so it goes UTH, Glass, Probe,Substrate. Is that incorrect? Anyway, i took him out, put on more neosporin, and replaced the cypress with paper towels. I took a few pictures, hopefully they show the burn better

The thermoSTAT probe should be on the outside of the enclosure though the thermoMETER probe should be inside the enclosure under the substrate right on the glass. The thermostat probe should be taped directly to the UTH.

The more I look at that pic the less I'm thinking it may be a burn. Burns usually cover more area. From what I can tell, that looks more like a cut or tear. Is there anything in her enclosure that has sharp edges that she could have crawled over, or did you feed recently, where she might have been injured by the prey?

I had the exact same thought. It doesn't look like a burn to me. Its too localized to be from a heat pad.

I think the neosporin should do the trick. I had a pretty nasty burn on one of my bps and just made sure she had brand new paper towel at all times and covered the wound in neosporin, bacitracin. After a couple weeks and a shed or two she is pretty much good as new!

Nothing beats a trip to the vet though.

I don't know what he could could have gotten hurt on besides his log. I mean just last week he got a small cut under his eye..i feel so bad, how can he keep getting hurt like this. I do feed mostly live but i know both wounds weren't from feeding. I guess the best thing to do is to get rid of the log...I don't know i just feel bad.

    Thanks everyobdy

Well, what does it look like to you? Google pics of some burns and scale rot and whatever injuries you think it might be and compare with what you have. Is the affected area blistered or scraped?

Here is a link to an old thread with photos of what was at first thought to be scale rot, but turned out to be a burn from an unregulated UTH. The OP never posted an update on whether the snake recovered or not...

Check your UTH for any signs of discoloration--if it IS a burn, then only one spot on the UTH is superheating for some reason, which could be a real fire hazard.

Check the top of your tank. Any rough spots? Rough edges? Loose wires in the screen? They will climb up and along the upper rim of a tank.

You need to take EVERYTHING out of the enclosure and rub your hand around everything. Including the top.....then take your hand and rub it on the water dish....the hides and etc. To me....if this is a second boo boo..then you have something sharp somewhere in that enclosure and she is getting to it. Also I may have missed it....what type of substrate are you using? Please check the care sheet to ensure it is something that is ok.

    Re: Help! Belly Wound!
I just had the thought that it could be a burn if only that part of the snake got down to the glass. All the glass is hot, but only that part of the snake touched it, the substrate being underneath the rest. Even if the Hydrofarm is set to 93, the substrate/hides will hold more heat than that. Also, where is the probe?

Still waiting to hear from OP, though.
